China is a threat to the US national security not military but economically, China's aim is to end the Dollar Reserve statute, and the US sees this as a direct threat to the privilege, this has nothing to do with Taiwan or the South China Sea. All US actions before and now have to do with the Dollar privilege which they don't want to lose by all means but the Chinese are a step ahead of the US because the US can't force anyone to use the Dollar.

The United States functions largely as a war economy, with a significant portion of its manufacturing sector dedicated to producing military weapons and equipment. This reliance on arms production creates a situation where the country continually seeks to sell more weapons to various nations around the world. While this practice may bolster the U.S. economy in the short term, it raises concerns about the ethical implications and long-term consequences of prioritizing military sales over other forms of manufacturing and trade. Ultimately, this approach may be seen as a troubling reflection of the nation's priorities and the impact it has on global peace and stability.
@robertsp09236 сағат бұрын
The USA has always been a bully and have used their military on numerous occasions to create wars. Then the rich who own the armaments manufactures make money. That is what a true AMERICAN is. The national moto is '' win at all costs using all methods available. They are experts in creating a '' win - loose '' method of negotiating.
@TeyunaSe5 сағат бұрын
Yes, it "bolsters the US economy.." but more importantly, it ensures the wealth of those who invest in the military industrial complex. i.e., many if not most members of congress. Until this obvious conflict of interest is illegal, they will continue to support war all over the world. I don't see this as a well meaning "reflection of the nation's priorities." I see it as the self interest of elites and the USA's determination to be a unipolar power dominating the world.

Jeffrey doesn't predict he tries to change outcomes. John's method is to dare the world to prove him wrong and fight for better outcomes than his model predicts. John is quite clear that 75% predictive value is a huge success in geopolitics and geoeconomics. Jeffrey desperately wants that 25% likely outcome on each side...but that is like 8% likely. John knows it. Jeffrey should start admitting it's hard to decide to cooperate and trust. That it may statistically not be advisable, even. So what? You can go to your death fighting the inevitable and in ten generations be seen as a hero or a fool. You'll never know. But philosophically Jeffrey is advising the elites to take risks to make peace. And John is telling the rest of us to prepare to take cover, and to be ready to make a new world entirely out of the wreckage of the old. In effect, John is warning China and India that when THEY are the two surviving great powers, they must make a system that evades this trap. One where both defer to an arbitrator, at least. But the USA never will. It's gone. Just a matter of how it goes down.

@@crhu319 I read a lot from JM, and I believe he is very much right when predicting the Western geopolitical behavior. However I think his mindset is not suitable when it comes to China. He understands the U.S. will not tolerate China's rise, but it takes two to tango. China will not behave like the U.S. because the cultural DNA for Chinese is not the same. As a person born and raised in China but have been living in the U.S. for 50 years, I can feel the acute difference between the two cultures. I am not saying which is better, or who is nicer. I am saying it is different. Chinese concern of "face" is overwhelmingly more than Americans. That is something dictates a lot on how Chinese treat "outside" people, which means they care a lot about perceptions by others. It is evident that even now, almost all "attacks" are initiated by the U.S., never China. JM is not the only one predicts the inevitable conflict between the U.S. and China. Graham Ellison, who coined the "Thucydides' Trap" says the same, but in his book he drew irrelevant examples dressed as evidence to boost his narrative. I think that is a general misconception by many Western scholars on their understanding of China.

I'm a huge admirer of Professor Sachs, but I am skeptical of his views on free trade. He argues that both sides benefit from free trade but that benefit is not distributed equally in U.S. society (a point Sachs acknowledges). The benefit goes to specific groups commonly referred to as the elites (such as Wall Street and Banks.) This criticism of free trade has been made going all the way back to NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) which did immense harm to blue collar workers and was causal in the deindustrialization of the U.S. The basic problem is that free trade undermines sovereignty and further enables the elites to increase their power and further isolates these elites from the society in which they live. // I know that Professor Sachs is a renowned economist and for that reason I hesitate to diverge from his views on this issue, yet there are other economists who make this point. // Thanks for posting this.

yes, the chinese are very hardworking, at 2am you can see those construction workers working, cleaners cleaning the public roads in Guangzhou. Shame on the US for being so jealous of hard working people who only want a better life
@editfazekas38544 сағат бұрын
People should not work on a construction site at 2 am but China has no human/workers rights. Moreover, the workers might spend a lot of hours on one task as they are not trained or just have different work ethics.
@vishnughandi98454 сағат бұрын
@editfazekas3854, what you said makes absolutely no sense. Go to China and check out their infrastructure it is not satisfactory or ok it’s top notch. These workers know what they’re doing they are working around the clock because work ethic is simply different there in that part of the world compared to the west. If they were so shoddy in there infrastructure building they wouldn’t be asked to literally fund finance and construct thousands of infrastructure projects around the world currently taking place like the mega port that was just completed in Peru and officially open. Do a better job of hiding your jealousy you sound like a sad bitter individual who still believes in western exceptionalism.

Dr. Jeff. Why we have never cared south countries between 1950- 1999. All of the south countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippine, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia. The highest GDP was 2.8 %. So why America and British never stood more peaceful world . All about money . Now most of the south Asian countries their GDP went up 5% which never happened last 70 years. China did helped many of those countries.

You're right, no country is completely innocent. I can name several "evils"/faults of China. However, I do think there is a clear winner on who the biggest bully is on an international global scale.

There is no question that China will prosper without intervention, that isn't new or in question, but what China and it's supporters fail to see time and time again is the reality that politics and military power always resets economic status. In school, the bullies rule. In organized crime, the most ruthless and organized. In geopolitics, it has always been the dominant economic class which deploys warfare to expand it's political and economic reach. Russia gets that to a point, America to perfection, but China is rather the smart hopeless kid in the class who cannot and will not take on the bully. They have repeatedly failed in history (3 lost world wars to speak of), each time getting a factory reset. Truly a sad political ethos that has it's limits. It's as if China needs a protector, in this case Russia. It's never demonstrated the willingness to engage in warfare -- even to it's own detriment.

we don't have bullies in school, they only exist in america ...

It can only delay China's resurrection, it won't change the trend. If you look at the history of China, there have been cycles, about 400+ years. From Han to Tang, Tang to Ming. By the mid of this century, it will be another 400 years from Ming. On the other hand, historically, the periods China had most influence in central Asia, happened to be the periods when China was powerful. It might be coincidences, but it happened a few times in the past already,

Sachs is wrong about international trade. The side with the factories wins. He is foolish to equate factories and productive capacity with a shipload of plastic video games. Tariffs work, and are necessary.

When they wait to long with peace ... then i expect indeed they will lose Charkov aswell and Russia will make the Dnjepr the future border, (with or) without Kiev region .... the longer the war goes on, Russia will push it up to the Dnjepr, from South to North.. but i think the Russians will never take the whole country.
