Differing economic perspectives aside, i think its somewhat lazy to imply that shocks are the transitional cause of booms turning to busts. Shocks simply are the catalyst. The boom cycle necessitates the bust as it gradually creates an environment where returns on assets becomes unsustainable barring capital appreciation. Like a forest becoming cluttered with debris. The shock or black swan, like a cigarette or lightning, merely started the fire, but the fuse was lit in the years before as the forest became overgrown and inefficient.
