You are so right about the Durango. I had 136,000 miles and the engine was done. It cost me $8,000 to rebuild the motor. My extended warranty would only pay half the cost. After the repair I traded it in. I had so many oil leaks it was pathetic. Lesson learned to avoid them. Thanks for sharing 👍

@@ECPP Not sure if this is true, but Stellantis proposed via the CEO it is maintaining its business model of higher priced (higher profit) vehicles and the failing EV's, over what most people could afford or want, while still doing little if anything to improve quality and reliability. I am no businessman, but I sense a flaw in that plan!

@@AvengerAngel Rather than expanding to new market (like Toyota did with Lexus) they have gambled that instead of selling 100,000 $35K cars (to get to $3.5B revenue) they would be better off selling $110K cars instead, that way they will need to produce only 35,000 to reach $3.85B in revenue and still be better off. Problem is, where's the research that their clients would want to buy something three times more expensive. Plus, what happens with the other two thirds of their loyal buyers who cannot afford a $110K Jeep. Maybe they will need to carpool?

I raised two kids in Toyota mid-engine, all-trac, supercharged leather Previas. Those were the days. The benefit of a third row was that, as we lived in Colorado and camped and did a lot of mountain excursions, the math was 2 adults + 2 kids + their 2 friends. They also slept two people.

The Durango has the mercedes ML body frame, which is the best SUV frame ever designed. The frame does so many things to keep brakes last longer, tires last longer, engine mounts last longer...etc. It has literally an indestructible transmission and a V6 Penstar that has gone through perfection since 2011 (all wrinkles are gone). The infotainment system was taken from a $200k Italian sports car that has ZERO issues. The interior is way better than any Japanese car (excluding luxury Japanese Lexus and Korean Genesis...etc). Initial quality scored 87 vs. Toyota Highlander 83. It tows better than any Japanese or any American in its class (7500 with v6 when equipped with a package). It has ROOMY 3 row seating. It gets you 24mpg. The styling is timeless, unlike Japanese and other Americans that ages in 3 years. This guy lumps all Stillantis brands all together without understanding the history behind specific vehicles. I'm now questioning the credentials of this reviewer on cars. Anyone can say just buy Toyotas and be right on reliability (but ugly and boring and style ages in 3 years). You have to understand cars. Mercedes E350 without fancy air suspensions were used as taxis in Europe for decades. All Mercedes are designed for 100k miles, the w211(like E350) 300k miles. So at that time, if you wanted a Benz in the USA, you get E350 because they are beautiful and can outlast a Camry. Don't be lazy. If you like a car, dig deep in research. There are car experts and publications that can help in that.

@RetroDudeX77 It's going to be dead because Jeep made 3-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L (long). And it competes directly with the Durango. Stillantis has to kill one of them, and since the Grand Cherokee is the more known to the public, it will win easily.

@draton yep Dec 2011 build Charger sxt plus blacktop. 120k miles BT module failed in warranty. Loose axle on rear, mild paint and body panel fitment issues. Thermostat recently. Changed trans filter/fluid, diff, coolant 2x, battery and serpentine belt (neither failed) 2x, brake fluid,. plugs, air and cabin filters, brakes several times (corrosion) several body seals due to rust protection. I was going to replace the Misses 03 Pilot in 2020 but went with a Forester. Very pleased with vehicle and dealership. Took me a year to talk her out of a CRV.

My father is a Volvo loyalist. He’s had a 2012 XC90 for 12yrs that he only did basic maintenance to, no major issues. He just traded it in for a 2023 earlier this year, we’ll see how it holds up.

Had a Jeep Wrangler brand new in the 90's Started leaking fluids everywhere are only a few months. They always have been crap and obviously still are. The old saying of "MOPAR No Car" still rings true!

On a recent trip to the South Pacific we rented an electric car to drive around one of the islands. We rented it from a local resident on the cheap. $60 for the day. We toured the entire island , through jungle areas and up steep hills and in city traffic. I was totally impressed. Plenty of power, smooth ride, good handling and brakes and nice design both inside and out. The owner told me it was a Chinese EV that he paid 15,000 euros for. ($16, 500 US) He was very happy with his purchase. I can understand why the government does not want these cars imported into the US.....

I like my 01 VW Cabrio. 80k. I just got all the maintenance done. Timing belt, water pump, all the belts, new shocks/struts, trailing arm bushings, rear motor mount. Big bill, but it’s nice to drive, will go up in value over time. Pretty simple.

Wise words my friend. The car market (ICE and EV) is building towards a perfect storm. Baffling why turbo-4s are being put into large cars. Physics alone would tell you that’s not such a great idea. Here in the UK lots of Tesla 3s starting to build up second-hand on car lots for surprisingly low prices. Most of them white too. Still driving a 3.0 diesel mercedes current at 160k , still pulls like a tank. Bit slow off the line unless you floor it but 30 to 70 mph keeps up with most. Waiting for a major issue before i change it its been a really good vehicle.

Had a 2006 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 Diesel and I concur that part prices are ridiculous. They cost the same a Mercedes. Gearbox was bulletproof and often reported as one of the best Mercedes made. Not sure about the newer ones.

VW had SO much potential, but they now make garbage cars and SUV's! That wasn't the case years ago. The best vehicle VW ever made was the Mk4 GTI VR6 and GLI VR6, with the second gen 24v VR6. How do I know? My daily driver for the past 22 years... yes, I repeat TWENTY TWO YEARS, is my 2003 GTI VR6! It has a 6-speed manual, naturally aspirated six, and i've had NO major issues with this car in all those years! The only mechanical issue was when the cooling fan went at around 110,000 miles. This car has been more reliable than a Toyota! I can't believe it!

Greetings from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I don't know the King and Queen of England lol. Nor do I know what is popular in Canada. But my idea in the near future is to visit my daughter who lives in Calgary for a bit, get used to driving on the wrong side of the road, and do a long trip to the States. What model of reliable used vehicle can I get that might be good for the job? Don't forget I'm British so have driven some real crap in my time...so long as it keeps working lol. Yes rentals and Turo are not able to cross the border. The best cars for these trips that will make it reliably are Mazdas, Hondas or Toyotas. We drove our Honda da Civic and our Toyota Camry to California this summer. Be careful though, depending on when you want to go, you may encounter storms as there are some big elevation changes

I mean let's be honest: NO ONE buys these cars unless they are leased, they don't care about money, or they have absolutely no idea what they are buying and just see it as "cheap" luxury. I have spent crazy amounts on my Toyota fun cars that I don't need to, but I ONLY do so because I know they are worth it and they will in turn STAY reliable for me in the long run. I do not mess around with trash anymore and when I pour money into my cars now, I know it's an investment, not a patch.

Eventually you want someone that's more present and actually has old school values like humility, cooking ability, willingness to do the simple things in life, etc... The 9-10's also are always looking to monkey branch until they see their looks fading - then what do they have to offer? Little to nothing.. Personally I'd rather keep an 8 and have all of the side benefits that very very very few women bring anymore. Imagine having a woman that just makes you lunch AND dinner AND gets up and goes to work AND Before work she's cleaning WHILE the food is cooking...AND she does her makeup wears a nice dress but is classy...
