Usually it's not the cost of the parts that is prohibitive, it's the cost of labor. When the warranty runs out, find a reputable independent BWM repair shop (I found one that was started by former service technicians from a local BMW dealership, so they're all certified, etc.). They were much less expensive on the labor + they don't nickle-and-dime on every little thing.

Every single thing . What i noticed is your paying double the labor costs . It seems the dealer extorting the costumer for their share .!! If the labor cost is $100 the total labor costs will be $200.

To be fair… this video sums up any luxury vehicle brand. If a car costs 100k to buy new, then its a 100k car that needs 100k type of servicing. Just because you paid 10k, doesn’t make it a 10k car. It’s still a 100k car.

I used to work at a used car dealership in Los Angeles. Used BMWs and Mercedez were usually purchased by people with bad credit. Many of them were repoed because whoever bought it could keep up with car payments when the expensive repair bill came up. We had a 2003 (I think) 7 Series BMW that we sold for about 5k and the dealer made almost 18k profit on it because it got repoed so many times and sold again.

My last BMW was great during the warranty period, then the cash drain began. By the time I had 150,000 miles on it I had already spent nearly 40% of the acquisition cost in repairs. I am sure it would have continued to skyrocket. I sold it with about 151,000 miles on it. No one turned a wench on it but BMW, all repairs documented, garage kept and I got back 5% of what I had paid for it new, yep, 95% depreciation. That was my last BMW, never again.

A lot of people lease these cars with crazy monthly payments thinking they can afford it but reality hits when they don’t even have money to put gas in it. I know a few people like that. Some leased brand new with the monthly payment and insurance taking up half their salary. Others bought used bmw’s with their life savings and don’t even put full coverage insurance on it cause “save a few bucks, nothing will happen” mentality. Flood happens or they get hit by a non insured driver or the car keeps breaking but they can’t keep up cause they don’t have any savings…. A lot of people fake it till they make it but most don’t make it and end up losing a lot of everything over a car.

I worked at a BMW dealer and I fully support this statement it’s so true the amount of people that walk into the dealership but they can’t keep up with payments nor basic maintenance and they always complaining too like bruh if you can’t afford the car don’t finance or lease or rather buy a bmw you can’t keep up with in all aspects ,people always want to look rich or buy the car for the logo and title , it’s really sad & goes to show how society gots it all fucked up people would rather buy a high end luxury brand car go into debt so they can say they oh “I drive a bmw “ than rather taking a step back humbling themselves and saying maybe I should finance or lease something that makes the most sense for the type of income I am making. I’ve had people complain about oh I’ve spent this amount of money you guys should be taking care of me etc like bro if your complaining and bitching so much about payments and everything that comes with owning the car then maybe you shouldn’t own one at all. & some acted so surprised too when they were hit with the bill when their cars were ready to be picked up after being serviced like dawg be ready for anything when we living in this market where prices are sky high .😂

I have also noticed that some just look at the price tag of a bmw, Mercedes etc and think “I can buy it”, but fails to count in the high maintenance costs that u have to pay in order to keep them work and be reliable. So when they realize it, they often cheap out and buy 3th party parts and then when they fail they blame the car, and then they sell it, and the next buyer will buy it and the loop continues. If u take care of the car as scheduled and keep up with the maintenance they wont break down as much.

Last month, after 18 years, I had to replace the A/C condenser. I'm not complaining! From what I hear and read, German cars for all their alleged performance and technology seem to be money pits. Those are not computers but a Module. The cars run on a Local area network called CAN. Those modules are network nodes assigned to carry out your commands. All race cars who will run turboswill change parts every time they need to, with the budget to do so. Because when it comes to turbos, it's about heat. It's the nature of the automotive beast no other way around it. Great channel with important information for all.

I wouldn’t want one more than two years old. Think how horrible on the environment it is to make a car that essentially is only reliable /economical for two years and then becomes useless. The manufacturer doesn’t focus on long term reliability they focus on initial sales only. Also had a VW Jetta that was one problem after the other till I finally gave it away. Combustion engines ain’t going anywhere. Too much money to be made in both (gas and electric) industries. Plus the electric technology is years away from being efficient enough to keep people rolling down the road. Hybrid should have been the way for manufacturers til they perfect full electric tech.

Slightly off topic but I have a friend who bought an AMG SL 550 convertible with 70k miles for $15k. It is a great Supercharged V8 car but it had the hydraulic issues common to German cars with active suspension, not to mention the hydraulics for the convertible roof. He is a very knowledgeable Mercedes guy and had sources for the hydraulic cylinders that were rebuilt with a better grade of seal. This illustrates what many people here are saying. My friend's car sold new for almost $130,000 and he now owns a final example for less than $20,000 and some hard work. This path is clearly not for everybody.

It’s all relevant , when I bought my 2016 Cayenne, there was water in one headlight , I got $4000 discount because that’s how much Porsche dealer was going to charge me to fix it , I brought the car home , took out the headlight , dried the moisture with blow dryer , installed new ballast and resealed it with silicone , and voila , works like a charm , cost , $105 … $100 for new OEM ballast (eBay) and $5 tube of silicone … I also replaced camshaft position sensors and solenoids on my S550 , and installed sacrificial harnesses to stop oil from creeping out to ECU and destroying everything , one afternoon work and $500 to prevent $15.000 damage .. that job would cost me around $2000 if I had it done at the shop … so with those cars there is a lot you can DIY , but things you can’t , and you have to take it to the shop , you better hold on to your britches, and have some money saved on the side lol …. ps I’ll have to replace turbos on my Benz eventually, they’re slowly leaking oil … don’t want to talk about that right now lol

I have BMW 530i 2018 Luxury line. 6 years old, still running smoothly, no engine problem, no suspension problem, and the fuel consumption is better than the japan's one. The only problem I have is the interior ... many are made by rubbers and they easily melt in my country's weather. So, I must be careful to park my car, as the car cannot go too hot or it will simply be melting. But I don't have to worry as there are a bunch of aftermarket parts that I could buy in online shop, and I could just change them to my local repair shop instead in the official repair shop. As for the wheel, I use Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and it works well with my budget, and the performance is still the same. The only problem with the price depreciation in any european cars is the dealer or the manufacture does not care about it at all. Not like Toyota, as they create a program that could ensure the price does not depreciate faster, you could basically sell your car to your dealer for better value. But in any european car dealer, if you sell your car to their dealer, they want it cheaper than the market price.

I own a small plastic manufacturing company (injection molding). The problem with plastic is that the molecular bonds tend weaken with thermal cycling. The molecular bonds in plastic, unlike metals, are not that strong to begin with. Thats why most plastic cracks in time. For example, I have an inexpensive car (Chevy Aveo) that I discovered has a plastic thermostat housing. I'm like, how stupid. Sure enough, I discovered that it had been replaced by the previous owner. If you have a turbo that's generating excessive heat under the hood, good night! I saw my mechanic working on a car with a plastic valve cover. I couldn't believe it. The internal stresses in certain areas of that part via high pressure injection molding makes that a foolish choice-weigh be damned. It will fail prematurely. Trust me.

Mercedes and BMW made durable, well-engineered cars in the 1970s and 1980s. Those cars weren't as profitable because they were long-lived and easy to maintain. Their new cars are now overpriced because their reputations rest on their earlier designs, and they are incredibly expensive to maintain. They don't last long, either. From friends that have owned BMW's over the years, I can tell you that just your run of the mill maintenance is pretty much the equivalent of "major repairs" compared to other cars. People just get the estimates on things such as a brake job, and they run for the hills. The ridiculous prices of the parts compared to other cars are just part of it - the labor tends to come in pretty high as well. A VP at a company I worked for years ago bought a BMW 3 series - traded it in within 2 years when she got the estimate for the brake job she needed to have done. Within a week, she traded it in for a loaded Honda Accord. Not sure why she didn't go with an Acura (she could have certainly afforded the step up to Honda's luxury brand), but hey - maybe they jack up the prices of their parts just like the other brands they compete with, lol.

Fast talker salesman, but right on point for the vast majority. The main reason BMWs lose value so fast is people who buy them dog them, and won't buy them used for both that and status concerns. Walmart has done oil service on my last six vehicles, synthetic $60, without issue. Never once pushed a belt or an air filter. They have protocols and follow them. Just helped my daughter buy a 2004 Bavarian X3, $3500. At 178k still a fine machine, and she won't drive it like a race car so should serve her well for years to come.

Hello there I just got a 2020 bmw x3 xdrive 30i with 41,000 milites in great shape when should I be worried about the transfer case I hear some people talking about this as soon as I tell them what I got.

Congrats, and I would check on the service history of final drive parts and fluid change if need be but the AWD system and the transmission are pretty solid in these vehicles. The B48 engine is good too. Watch for coolant leaks with time and higher miles.

As an owner of series E-60, I can attest to what he is saying. But here is the difference I bought my car used with less than 80K kms on the clock, I have owned it for 11 years now and hardly put another 80k on it, so the odo shows about 160k kms. Fron day one I went with oem parts, never went inside the dealership and found mechanics that allow you to bring your own parts. Yes they charge me a bit of higher labour but I save more than enough on parts as pretty much all autorepair shops in my parr of the world put a premium of 3 to 4 times on all spares. I still save tons. The ownership experience had been good, because the car had been very reliable, other than normal wear and tear. The spare parts are still not as cheap as a Toyota or Honda or any other Japanese brand, but that isna given. I am honestly not interested in buying newer BMWs because their design does not appeal to me but I am actively looking for an E46 330Ci, E36 318is and an E30 325i. I am in negotiations for at least two of them, and before buying I have already meet the requirements. I have a spare parts pipeline, mechanics that can work on them plus I also do basic maintenance such as engine oil change, brake oil change etc my self saving me further. Having said that my situation is unique to me and might not apply to others. The rule of thumb is thr car might be cheap now but it's still very expensive to maintain.

Haha yes indeed, there is now way out with a cheap BmW in the long run. Pay me now or pay me later.

I have 2 bmw x5’s 4.0 for sale, it’s huge stress to flip these. Never again will I try this. If you really want to trade BMw’s 1-series and some older 3’d are the way to go.

True and a lot of luxury cars are hard to sell on the used market including Benz, Audi, and Jag

Its just manufacturing affected by regulations as it seems used car sales will not be affected by the future regulations. That means the used market will see cars maintaining their value or even appreciating!

Oil changes on my F30 couldn't be easier. Oil changes on this car at the dealership should be a crime. Brake pad replacements. you can do all 4 in under an hour! I would recommend anyone who drives a car to take basic maintenance classes or learn from a friend... it will save you a ton of money and you can do most upkeep service right from your own driveway.

Even for older cars, the parts can get insanely expensive. The best resource to save money on these cars is TIME. Working on them was not as bad as I thought it would be but it's very time consuming (a lot of plastic shrouds and torx bolts). I've been able to lower my annual costs by doing all maintenance items myself. For critical issues.... good luck man LOL. A good strategy is to diagnose the car yourself, grab the parts you need that are OE not OEM (to avoid dealer mark ups) then head to a trusted mechanic and specify the exact job you would like done. I can't emphasize enough the importance of building a relationship with a good shop for these cars.

BMW makes every mechanic turn into a con artist. The same service and ease of service as nissan but 4X the price thanks to the roundel. NOT the cars fault. Take it to a BMW independent mechanic and it costs that same as an accord to service.

@@ECPP Truth. BMW in it's history was always in the spirit of owner maintenance. Oil filter on top is is something most manufacturers even now are following for ease of self maintenance.

I was going to look at a F10 535i tomorrow and decided to check YT for some info. After watching your video I have decided to not buy a BMW. Honestly, thank you for saving me all that headache!

@@ECPPHaha that's a good question, I honestly don't know yet. I might have to go with Toyota or Honda since they are the most reliable brands. I am hearing good things about Kia as well. What would you recommend? A car that is not boring but also reliable? I love Lexus but they are too expensive even used ones.

I have a 330 17 model and is doing well for me! It's been a couple of years now and no problems. I stay up on my maintenance and actually drive my car. Don't let your BMW sit. If you're looking to get a BMW, do your research! Don't get a high mileage, check the maintenance history and look out for new and swapped parts. This might help you reconsider if anything. Bring a trusted mechanic too 🙏🏾
