I was in Morocco in 2017...was shocked to see how many of those early model Mercedes Diesels were in service as taxis. Little to no rust and running strong. Stayed inside the Medina and our driver ran us everywhere from Marrakech to Fez with not even a hiccup in one of those.

Mercedes, BMWs, Audis and Teslas are used as taxis all across Europe. They are reliable if you stick with with the 2 liter 4 cyl engines. Those Old mercs are a nightmare to own though. Had a neighbor with one and that thing was broken everyday. Plus you can't tow the damn thing if it breaks, because they're built like tanks

............ I Reside in San Francisco...I researched the most reliable and cost effective vehicle...by going to Taxi Cab Owners of fleets..The Most all use Toyota Prius w/ 250 to 500 K on clock...and that is going up and down hills all day & and flooring them most often ...Prius with exceptionally interesting no MAIN Large Battery replacements......Speaks to Toyota / Lexus mind set vs Euros!

Last of the naturally aspirated motors are BMWs bread and butter. Our 2010 328i E92 N.A. N51 has 200120 miles running till this day very good and reliable. In that time we have changed the exhaust-intake vanos cyl. Drive belt assembly, starter, Mickie mouse hose fitting on the motor, and one battery after all these years but just continues to drive very nice. It seems that up till now the water pump is still working and have had no problem at of yet. And if course mantianace. Also have a 2006 Toyota 8 Passanger sienna van 3.0L still going strong, 100309 miles. Changed timing belt, battery's twice, coils, 2 OX sensors, a radiator, hoses, starter twice, and maintenance. But as you said, and know in all this time the reality is have saved a lot of money doing everything ourselves, never been to a dealer or mechanic for anything on either vehicle. I've been working on my hobby sence 14 years old. Now in the older years, but continue to do what we can. Save money on reliable vehicles. Really love your channel. Have a great day.

I thank you so much for watching and yes a consistent maintenance regime can keep vehicles on the road a lot longer, and the 328 and 330 in that generation are the residual of BMWs and reliability. Things went downhill when 6s were replaced with 4 turbos as Toyota is also starting to see now. Some vehicles are a simpler and more reliable vehicle to own and fix another for stay around a longer

Of all of them, my 2008 Ram Big Horn Edition with quad cab leather, power everything, sunroof & back sliding window, all with the famous 5.7 Hemi, 392 rear gears, was the most reliable work & play truck I've ever owned. The dodge 4.7 never got the appreciation. But actually was a good engine. The hemi people wanted but I've never seen a lot of 4.7 problems. One i had the body went before the engine. Chevy had the 4.8. same thing everyone wanted the 5.3. But other than eventually changing valve cover gaskets the 4.8 was a solid engine. The design was solid. I actually think the Dodge version ran a little smoother though. It was the body in the dodge that was the problem. Rust. Drivetrain with the 4.7 was good. Mechanically good. Just change sway bar links. Interior great. It was the body. Starts with little rust bubbles and spread

Bought my 2001 4Runner with 100000 miles on it. It was just getting broken in! Lol! With the current and pending eco requirements, it's becoming a huge money loss factor for the major auto manufacturers. Attempts at creating electric vehicles being one of them, let alone such concepts like turbo 3 cylinder engines. Simply unsustainable. Amazing how some of the older vehicles are holding their values.
@ECPP
@ECPP 7 ай бұрын
Thats awesome, and the older 4runners are an example of a vehicle that is built to last. As complexity rises, it is a matter of time before buyers start to look back to the older simpler vehicles as repairs costs rise on the new vehicles.

6/9/24 - This vid is spot on! Yes todays vehicles are techno advanced Yes past old vehicles are old techno Both past present vehicles have what was at the time better development And appearance for the most part attractive However, as you point out todays disposable vehicles Sacrifice made for better: - Weight - Gas mileage - Performance And this results in Poor materials: - Metal - Plastic -Design parts and placement And not to forget the poor: - Fit finish - reliability - exorbitant price Driving forces are: - Customer wants - Manufactures feeding consumers what they want - Manufactures creating a product desirable And there's - Government credits - EPA enticement - CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) - Etc It's about the bottom dollar: - Greed - Greed - Greed It's all and good for consumer and manufacture to get what they want Sadly the bottom dollar drives both the pocket money and consumer desires and the manufactures feed into it Theme: "disposable Me"

How do you feel about Volvo? Im still running a 15 year old Volvo wagon with the inline 6. Everyone said they were junk engines. But 15 years later it's still running as my daily. And i actually haven't put much money in the car at all. Few hundred dollars a year. Some years none. About it. It's still on the original shocks and struts. The shocks are way past due though. I've had to change the fan module twice. The ac compressor makes a noise but still blows cold and its been making the noise for like 5 years i ignore it. It's had a exhaust leak for 7 years or so. Quiets down when it warms up. Waterpump. Belt. Tires. Fix the driver window seal. Battery once. I do dump a quart of oil in between oil changes. It gets a a little low. Doesnt seem to burn oil not even sure where it goes.. car actually hasn't cost much in repair and hardly ever a problem. Transmission fluid was changed like 6 or 7 years ago around 150k. Front brakes 3 times i think. Back twice. Headlight bulbs three times. License plate lights once rear lights twice. Cars been pulling a three thousand lb trailer sometimes too. You are way high in maintenance cost. I think over 15 years I've put maybe 7 k in the Volvo. Walmart tires and dont pay a dealer for oil changes. Use the 20k mile Fram filters. Change the oil once a year or so. Still runs pretty fine actually. It's not at 300k yet but it's getting up there.

Lets not beat around the bush as to why these cars are harder to find, manufacturers need planned obsolecense they want you buying a new car more often instead of going for that used one. This is why the EVs where so attractive to car makers, basically a smartphone on wheels.

" planned obsolecense " is bread and butter for Euros and Korean Genisis........ Most dumb people Rent / Lease and dump these in three years (never own anything)....as the aforementioned Euros survive on Expensive Service department repairs....so the dumb people get a Warr. on a 130K vehicle???? @ 130K Porsche why do I need a Warr.?????
