Yep my 2012 GTI had the plastic clip, easy to get off just go slow and pry a little at a time on each side. Works perfect easy install especially if you have already replaced your intake

Thank you the video, I installed one for my 2008 GLI and everything went in and out pretty easy. The side to side arm featured a plastic clip to depress the arm back, but took some wiggling to snap back onto the new shifter. The front to back arm was straight forward and i just grabbed as far forward as I could on the arm. I just hand tightened the shifter bolt, then another 1/8 turn but nothing more. The shifts don't feel shorter but the stick shift is crisper with a heavier feel which cleans up the factory play. I put silicone grease on the ends that touch the side to side arm. I didnt have to adjust the shifter levers or after install.

You need to see the video done by Paul at Deutsche Auto Parts DAP for 5 or 6 speeds. There is a specific process where the gear is put into neutral, then an exact 5 km rod is inserted into the gear shift inside the car. You have to pull up the cover, and use the rod to align the two holes. Then use the locking pin. That should not allow any shifts, just up and down. See Paul's video to set the torque FP. Do not exceed or you may break the tower itself costing $400 just for the part! Put the car in reverse to tighten the nut. Also seeThe Humble Mechanic for the exact same process.

There is absolutely a difference. On the MKV the retaining clips are made of metal while on the MKVI they're made of cheap plastic. (The plastic clips tend to break easily if applied too much force.) You can see them here 1:47

At 1:55 The Clip he is removing was different on my 2009 TSI GTI. It was a little plastic piece that went through the end of the rod to hold it which went through that cylinder that he pushed away to release that side arm. Mine broke with very little force. Now, in order to shift, I have jerry-rigged a flexible piece of metal wire around that side arm to hold that rod in place throughout the cylinder. I have to get a replacement part from Volkswagen eventually... Other than that, It works well.

Is the index mark on the shift cable a factory mark or does the DIY mechanic need to mark it? If DIY mechanics need to mark it, what's the procedure for determining precisely where the mark should be? Also, where precisely does the new end linkage line up with the index mark? Is it brought directly to the mark but not on it? Directly on the mark? Is there a rigging procedure to verify proper alignment of the transmission, cable, and each throw of the stick shifter?

This video is a bit misleading. Do not pull up and down on that short shifter like he did. Shifter Cable end links have locks on them as well. He is also not showing you that you need to torque these nuts to specific lb-ft or these will break and replacement is not cheap $$$. Alot of information here missing for someone wanting to install these things on their own. He is also not showing you that you need to do a shifter alignment after this or you gears will be out of wack.

+Cesar Barreiras Coelho That's my biggest question here. The ECS instructions for the shifter bushing install and mounting bracket bushings has them turning a little locking key on the transmission and then pulling the trim up from the shifter knob and putting some shifter locking pin down in there before putting the shifter cable end links back onto the transmission. My main question to ECS (or anyone who knows) is whether or not this HAS to be done if those cable end links come off or not?

There is absolutely no difference on the install on the mkvi. I have installed and removed about 5 ssk on the mkvi and the Passat CC. They are the same

No es tan fácil como te lo ponen aquí, yo lo hice así y despues tuve que ajustarlo bloqueando la palanca y comprimiendo los muelles.
