VW has developed a solution to the knocking noise coming from your vehicles front sub-frame.
These plates are inserted between the subframe and body to take up the space that was creating a shift in the subframe thus giving you the knock. This kit also comes with 2 updated fully threaded bolts to help cure the shifting subframe.

Not a bad video. Some tips I would add as a professional who services these cars for a living. Firstly disconnect any auxiliary items connected to the frame. Like the dog bone mount, and the exhaust hanger. Secondly spay some brake cleaner or similar into all the threads and blow them out. Finally, use a stand, or a jack (if on the ground) to hold the subframe in place while you torque down the bolts. The reason for this is to eliminate false torque readings. This will ensure a perfect clamp every time.

so, during realignment bolts will be losen again? But according to vw recommendations such bolts tighten with torque+turn MUST be replaced.

Is this common on a mk2 Audi TT 3.2? Mine is making a similar noise but lower pitched. Possibly because I've only heard it from inside the car.

its interesting how the video states that the torque spec of the bolts is 81 FT-LBS plus a 1/4 turn, but the kid installing the bolts clearly doesn't do the 1/4 turn before saying "and now we are complete"... so much for doing the job right!!!

@Steve C Every manual I've seen has always stated 70Nm (51ft-lb) then 90 degrees.

VW manual says 52ft/lbs + 90 degress (1/4 turn), I am not sure where they are getting 81ft/lbs from

Two of the bolts on the control arm suppors are stretch bolts. You shouldn't loosen and attempt to retighten, they should be replaced as well. You don't show the 1/4 turn after the torque sitting is reached, was that intentional?

The subframe still moves with these spacers its just that you dont hear it anymore! SO youre alignment still goes awol

alex cristian thebspacers serve the purpose of a lock washer, and also adjustment during an alignment. This is how camber is adjusted on many VW.

Is this a dumb question, how would you fit these while using axle stands?

like jackstands? put the stands on the lifting point on the pinch weld. It should say in your owners manual where to lift your car.

@@solomonanczarski5402 question was more linked to whether the wheels need to have the weight of the car on them still when letting the subframe go… less to do with; where I put jack stands.. I got that bit down believe it or not. Not sure many people would be asking a question about doing a job like this if they didn’t know where jack/axle stands go, do you?

So asking how I fit ‘these’ while using axle stands would imply I’ve got the car off the ground and I’m referring to the bolts. Not how the fuck do you use axle stands. You shouldn’t own axle stands if you don’t know how to use them. Ps. The welded bit is a jacking point, not an ideal “stand” point.

81 ft/lbs plus 90 degrees? According to Bentley, and the ECS instructions on the locking collar set, it's 51 ft/lbs plus 90 degrees. Hope the bolt snaps before the threads in the body tear out!

@@g4sean just because they do not really knows what they are doing.... They advised always to do so f**** things.... torque here are here in order from left to right (+90° turn): 70 - 70 - 50 - 50 - 70 - 70 - 50 - 50 -70 -70 and you are done. All bolts have to be replaced by new ones and mounted with anti seize or copper grease. Original bolts are costless , seems to be 5 bucks each.....

В Украине Олени продают по 900-600 гр без шайб . Поехал себе на разборку японцев и взял себе болт такой даже ещё лучше доконца нет резьби и тело немного по толще получилось идеалюно и пластину сам зделал перучилось с бензином и бролтом 50 гр.

Hello. I have a 2014 Tiguan and there is a noise in front of the driver seat. It's most like a knocking sound on the front strut. My dealer has check everything but nothing seems to be bad. I've read about this issue in different blogs either Tiguans and golfs but without any solution. Is this kit is made for this? The noise sometimes appear in the steering wheel.

What's the purpose of the ECS product? Why not just torque the OEM bolt down to specs?

They are stretch bolts. One time use. I realize this is old but I am answering for other people wondering.

Go to the vw dealer and order 2 bolts with part number N-908-235-01. Should solve your clunking issue. Bolts are from a Passat. They fit.

The bolts have to be replaced whenever you drop the SBF. Also, the spacers serve the purpose of a lock washer.
