Have been watching and listening (from Canada) as a respectful Army brat and military spouse for the last 2 years to the interviews of Vietnam Vets. I've been very fortunate to have met a few Vietnam Vets living here in Canada now, and I was taught Grade 11 law by a man from Pennsylvania who was a radio operator in Vietnam. I have to say that listening to this man speak of his experiences has to be one of the best. I have found that it has helped me understand the PTSD my husband and some of his friends suffer from. Thank you for such an outstanding channel.

I just came across this article and I thought I’ve met this man. I was right. We met coming up on four years ago in Iowa at Bills funeral. AKA Boo. Great interview and thank you for sharing your experience. By coincidence tomorrow 3-29-23 we’re having a ceremony honoring all Viet Nam veterans. Bill is the one who talked we into joining the American Legion Honor Guard . Thanks again and take care. Jerry Reiman

I was lucky enough to be good friends with the man mentioned at 36:42 "Moto". I shot High Power, Long range, USPSA with him and built him a couple pistol's over the years. Great man in all aspects, I am lucky enough to have his and Ed's autograph and note in my copy of the book. I sure miss the conversations we had and it was my highest honor to carry him to his final resting place! RIP Moto.

Really good interview. My dad was a Marine. He served in Korea and was wounded. He came home and went back to school while being in the Marine reserve. After he graduated when us kids started coming around went back on active duty. We ended up in northern Virginia and he eventually ended up at Quantico in the Area Auditor's office. To shorten the story a few years we got to go to Okinawa in 1968 after the tet offensive in Vietnam. I was a teenager at the time. I learned about Vietnam more than most back in the states that had no military understanding. It made quite an influence on me. All my friends were military brats like me, Army and Air Force. The plane we flew back on had 2 families on it ours and a Major's whose daughter I rode the school bus with me. Everyone else on that plane were Marines going home from Vietnam. We lived there for 2&1/2 years. I was exposed to a lot of military related things that dealt with the war. I still think about that. My dad retired as a Master Sargent and I'm so glad he didn't have to serve in combat. But I do have a lot of respect for those who did! Semper Fi my friend's!

Young Americans have been fighting the war on terror for two decades. Mainly young people volunteering to serve. There are still many young willing to serve their country. They have done incredible work. And many have suffered due to their service. Many with no visible scars. And many have the support of their communities. Sadly, relatively few Americans wrote books about their service during WW2. It is good to see so many books written by Vietnam veterans. I hope more books will be written by veterans of the last few decades. There is so much to learn from their experience. Semper Fi and slava Ukraine. I have just been listening to the stories of General Henry Thomas of the US Civil War. He had a low opinion of black men being good soldiers. Until he saw how well they fought. Now we even black women soldiers in combat roles. General Thomas became a strong supporter and protector of freed slaves.

Your story is the tallest one period. 2100fps? Bullshit kiddo. 7.62x51 likes 2550fps with a 24" heavy barreled bolt action. At 500m even a .338 lapua won't spin a plate. Ya shooting a 2" plate. Any KZbins of anyone spinning plates at 500m? If you can do that you must be a real expert. Expert bullshiter. Texas Gunsmith

M-72 Match ammo for 30-06. Thompson had 50 or 100 round drums. Early snipers in Vietnam were horribly utilized
I am 76 and my lottery number was 62. 10 Days after I married, I had my pre-induction physical. Though I come from a military service family, my dad on BB56, USS Washington at second Savo Strait and his father, Annapolis, I was raised in a Presbyterian church, a denomination that denounced the VN war, but also taught killing could only be justified to save the life of innocents or to defend the country, friend, neighbor under directly deadly attack. Thus, I was a CO. However at that pre-induction physical when I was confronted by the Army Captain shrink about my foolish notion that it would be wrong under the circumstances to kill "for my country," I stood my ground. BUT, I then offered to enlist in the Navy with a guarantee that I would be trained and be assigned to be a corpsman with the USMC.That was rejected. For all there, following the physical, the oath would be administered. I could not meet that expectation, but I was insistent, and I and my new wife and family knew I could be arrested immediately because of refusal. I had told the Army shrink that I would not be taking that oath absent the enlistment and duty guarantee. My CO draft board status had been a battle I had never given up. I, to this day, cannot understand why my enlistment was denied and ignored. They re-classified me as "1-Y," and I can only assume they just did not want to bother with me. Again, to this day, it haunts me. I was half way through college and had advanced first aid as a Scout. And, as a corpsman, I would be justified in using deadly force if my patient was being put in greater danger by enemy attack. I was also an expert rifle, pistol and shotgun marksman. I am sorry, but I have not abandoned my faith.

Holding fast to your faith and not betraying your beliefs would make you the sort of man of honor the armed forces should be glad to have. Sounds like they were just trying to fill their quotas of bullet catchers to make McNamara happy. I'd say it was their loss and I applaud you for holding fast to your convictions👍

Unfortunately there were those who did not have allot of faith and probably did not know how many our God had called on to eliminate in the old testament who were actual evil folks who he helped them to take out on his own behalf. Probably even more so now with the evil that has taken place in Iraq and Afghanistan with just everyday and peaceful people being be-headed, tortured and killed including women and children who were not actually involved in their fight.
