If paying the safety as much as the quarterback would help win more Super Bowls then every team would do that.

Your wrong. The NFL has a Cast system for salaries QBs always get paid the most

Agreed - the teams are willing to pay big $$$ for positions that an elite player is very difficult to replace. The dropoff at QB from 1st to 2nd can be catasrophic for a team's season (look at the Bengals this season w/o Burrow) and as good as Reed was, losing him to injury isn't nearly as damaging to the team as the Pats losing Brady or the Colts losing Manning.

@@dexterwestin3747 FALSE. Reed was as important to that d as Brady or Mannging was to his o.

@@youknowho2541 Respectfully disagree. If you think a FS is as important to a team as a QB then we have nothing to discuss. Ray Lewis had a bigger impact on the Ravens defense than Reed.

I agree with Ed on this, The NFL owners base pay structure on position with QB being the top level. However sometimes you get such a rare talent like Ed Reed, at safety, you have to pay him like a QB and not a Safety. I would have killed to have Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu in the same Secondary. The Steelers would easily have 8 Super Bowls

The QB is the most important because he touches the ball on 90% of the offensive plays

If the opposing QB hands off the football to a RB or passes the ball 5 yards to TE when Ed Reed is on the field chances are his impact on that down will not amount to much as most offensive coaches will exploit the weakest link on the field.

Ed was an amazing player but a QB has to control the whole offense and make split decisions in the blink of an eye. As a DB you just have to cover one guy and watch for the run. Not the same pay scale to me. At least not Manning or Brady type money.
