It's a shame this man had to spend months here for court while missing his grandmothers services in Ireland just so he could prove he writes music and doesn't rip it off. I hate false copyright claims. even as a small creator on youtube singing a song in a horrific way. i get claimed. And this false copyright claim had caused ed sheeran missing his grandmother funeral. that's something that money can't buy back. i do feel there needs to be some experts to really deal with these copyrights. so we can end of these false claimers.

Were jury members Marvin Gaye fans? Hope so. A full jury of Marvin Gaye fans would KNOW that he DID lift the basic rhythm from the song 'Let's Get It On.' Any fan of Marvin Gaye would know that Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' contains key breaks and elements of Gaye's ' Let's Get It On.' Another sham decision by perhaps a jury which really weren't as familiar as millions of fans who played the song over and over again - so much so - we know this is another rip off of creative talent. Bet they didn't first play Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," first - then asked 'What song does this sound like?" Had the jury known the song previous to being juror's, then asked that question, if they were all qualified Gaye fans they will have said, without a doubt "Let's Get It On ....by Marvin Gaye.' That -- would be justice.

There are 180 comments on this video, almost all expressing support for Sheeran. That may seem like a lot, but it's really a tiny crowd of Sheeran supporters from around the world who felt adamantly enough about this to comment. I am in no way a supporter or fan of Ed Sheeran. I have always found him and his music fairly obnoxious, unoriginal, and devoid of much substance. He is like a male Taylor Swift....both plunder other artists hard work in order to make meaningless pop songs that lack "soul." There is absolutely no question that Marvin Gaye's song was the primary building block for Sheeran's. Anyone who claims otherwise is either in denial or ignorant about music and songwriting. Gaye's estate was well within their rights to demand compensation. A fair outcome might have been to award them 20 percent of the royalties (at least). This was not a fair outcome. Oh well. As usual, Sheeran showed himself to be the same self-interested individual as always in his prepared "statement", in which he tried to deflect blame and garner sympathy over a situation which was no one's fault but his own. He even brought his dead grandmother into the equation, as if clutching at any straw of credibility he could to distract from the embarrassing situation at hand, which was, in truth, all his doing. Not surprisingly, his statement also sounded way too much like a victory lap, given the circumstances. Instead of acknowledging his musical debt to the plaintiff, which any thoughtful, conscientious musician would have done long ago, he claimed there were "no similarities" between the two songs (!) and essentially doubled down on the idea that he should be able to profit by appropriating more talented people's work wholesale, because in truth he lacks originality. The Rolling Stones acknowledge their debt to Robert Johnson. The Beatles, to Carl Perkins and Chuck Berry. But not Sheeran. According to his statement, his song bears "no similarity" to Marvin Gaye.... A simple listen to the two songs proves what a superficial, anti-musical claim that is, coming from an "artist" who makes similarly shallow, disposable music.

@@terencedrakes5291 That's fine, it may sound similar in certain parts due to chords and instrumentation, rhytm, but that in no shape way or form makes it a copy. If you research, you'll find that the writer of the Marvin Gaye song in question did similar things as well. There are many eerily similar parts of previous songs from other writers. For it to be a copy, there must be a lot more to it than certain segments sounding similar. In this case the melody is completely different, the lyrics are completely different, the chords are similar but not the same, but they both use a very common rhythm and bass line that thousands of other songs use too.

The jury is out. Its a technical win. But the judgement doesn't match the music. They do sound alike. Thats why there's a court case. Even he admitted it in court through an easy mash-up. I disturbed at the simple fact he was able to get away with using the groove, same key signature, rhythm, syncopated kick with an added verse. Also noting a history regarding this very issue. And has settled out of court. Mud sticks. Stealing segments from other artist song doesn't make you a writer. Your a copycat. What's done is done. The empty threat didn't mean anything. This was a technical win. I heed the lesson, he may lose the next one.

So justice has failed once again. Ed Sheeran is clearly a conman and a liar.

I’m glad he won the case, but what’s with the self aggrandizing? All due respect to his musicianship, he sounds like he’s deluded into believing he’s on par with James Taylor, Paul Simon, or Bob Dylan.

The differences between Ed Sheeran and Marvin Gaye? Marvin Gaye was a musical genius, Ed Sheeran is a troll doll that came to life and started torturing people with his singing.
