You cannot own music theory or rhythm as a whole. If you could, then 90% of country music would be condemned as plagiarized because it all uses the same chord progressions. Very rarely will you hear a country song that deviates from a very specific formula.

The Marvin Gaye estate needs to relax and just leave people in the music world alone. They seem very "Sue Happy".

The story of his family is just tragic... He was murdered by his own father. They undoubtedly have a team of lawyers on speed dial and just sit around listening for new music they can exploit. The "blurred lines" case should've immediately been thrown out. We as a society have made it so impossible for artists to express themselves. Firstly, by taking the money out of the hands of the artists. Secondly, by scrutinizing them and exploiting them through claims of plagiarism that are obviously inapplicable... Art is really important and it's dying.

This video is obsolete: Sheeran WON the trial: these chords do not belong to a certain musician, they are elementary for songwriting and belong to ALL musicianns :-)😊

While the Marvin Gaye estate is extremely greedy and really don’t seem to be concerned with actually preserving his legacy, as much as they are just pouncing on anything with a slight resemblance, Ed Sheeran has many songs suspiciously similar to other big hits. I know shape of you was a case of that, so while he may not be guilty of it in this specific case, I don’t think that means he’s just a super original songwriter who’s never stolen anything. And obviously that’s a tricky thing bc every artist uses inspiration, every artist has references and interpolations of old songs, that’s huge in pop music currently. But the trouble comes in when you don’t get permission or give credit, but music is a weird thing there probably never gonna be an amazing way to 100% determine if something is stolen or not. You could hear a song and part of it kind of stays in the back of your head subconsciously for years and then you write your song and that comes out, and it was completely accidental

Sometimes music is similar it’s called musical influences it seem like everybody uses everybody’s ideas at some point music and originality is almost a thing of the past and if it is original this day and time it usually sucks very bad at best

Well you can't take something that isn't yours and try and make it something a bit different. Just like blurred lines. Its an insult to the original creator. Why not just ask permission
