I just found out today actually. I've heard the interview where he admitted things about Alice & him. That necklace that he wears, even until now, is the one that he's talking about in the song. Wake Me Up is entirely about how he loves Alice. He said that even though he knows that Alice doesn't wear the other half anymore, he still want to wear his half of the necklace because of its sentimental value. He's been wearing it ever since he was 16. He loves Alice. It's beautiful how much he does.
