13:20 - that's a small detail that makes a big difference, and I think really helped with the mood of FF VII... the way the music constantly played _through_ scenes but also how it picked up where you left of. soooo much of the greatness of VII is really mood and atmosphere, the tension... the frantic chase scenes, the ominous Sephiroth or Jenova scenes. you notice a lot of that lost in lower budget RPGs (e.g. later Suikodens) where there is bad silence between scenes... or the PS4 version of FF VII where the world map music restarts every time. it's a small thing but the seamless playing of music in VII was huge.

Awesome Interview! FFVII is my favorite game of all time. To be in the same room with some of the people who helped create it is such an honor. Uematsu-san is the greatest musical artist of our lifetime. He seems like such a nice guy to boot. I've heard about his recent health issues, & that he has stepped away from work to take it easy. I wish that man all the best. It does suck that he was confirmed to be involved with the FFVII Remake but if he were to never make music again I wouldn't hold it against him. You have done enough already sir. But I really hope the music in VIIR was already done so we can get a great send off by Uematsu-san!

Funny how they worried about that black loading screen when One Winged Angel plays. If anything to me, that made it even more menacing. The way it fades to black when you think the first Sephiroth phase is done, then the music kicks in, reminding you it's not over.

All love from me (music is top-notch, gives big impact), i have been in love with the serie since i was a little girl, it all started early, watching my big brother playing the games, as he was playing ff7, i was still a young girl, not even coming so far with english in school, but still the effect of seeing Aerith selling flowers in the streets, did a big effect on me, we did'nt knew her name yet, and i instantly used to call her "the flower girl/flower girl" , and i looked upto her, she was my fav. It wase'nt like i always was freshly looking at him play, but somehow after some days/weeks of re-entering&watching him play, i remember asking my brother where the flower girl was, since she wasen't in his team, during his gameplay. She left such a big impact on me, during her death, i felt so much loss, like i lost someone important in my life, like a friend or family member. They really did well, according to me to make, Aerith likeable (aware that there's Aerith-haters out there, we can't love all, that's what i like about fictional characters, in fandom there's always going to be at least 1 person, who even can like the one, most people hate/dislike, or like the bland one, even the rich kid with a nasty attitude can be liked, cosplay them, it's like how we like ourselves&each others in real life, some traits&attributes among each others we like, can handle, some not). Anyway! in my young, girly heart, Aerith was there, being my fav. Still today, i can think how things would look like if she never died, her reaction to us gamers entering her birthhouse, looking at the tapes with Ifalna&Gast, fantazise Cloud&aerith the 1/2 cetra, settling down starting a family/still helping out kids with geostigma, since holy from ff7 plot would still probably be trapped, the same way, the same incidents with holy&lifestream would occur, since sephy is the one hindering Holy from spreading out, his barrier would still be needed to be taken down the same way.

They must have worked their asses off back in the day, under a lot of stress creating masterpiece after masterpiece. I guess all three had a lot of interaction then, sharing creativity and dedication to make the best, most refined product possible. With this sort of work environment, special friendships can form - you can see it in the video. For japanese people, the three are very jovial and serene with each other. I just love masters at their craft who are nice and polite, they are quite rare.

I swear when they were asked how they met I expected Uematsu-san to tell that he joined Square for the text adventure Alpha on PC-88 which was the first Square game he composed music for. But it might be that he does not remember that game anymore. Pretty much all games of Square before Final Fantasy came out are like a myth. If there is any chance you can interview them again or some of them I hope we are allowed to ask some questions once more. This is such a special occasion and so much to be appreciated.
@TrevorPhilips6 жыл бұрын
10:10 - Uematsu says cyberpunk :D i know it's splitting hairs over semantics, and steampunk is a thin line... but I do agree, while it may have the aesthetic mixed of steampunk with only a little cyberpunk, the _plot and mood_ is very cyberpunk -- the rich vs poor, megacorp vs resistance, the contrast of dark and light, the danger of technology. steampunk is always a little romantic, a celebration of the machines and the ingenuity of them... cyberpunk is much more the dangers of machines, of power, of those that have power -- and in particular, japanese cyberpunk and how it differs a little with a focus on metamorphisis and life (akira and jenova... rebirth in ghost of the shell and the theme of 'life' in VII) Uematsu comes back to that at the end of this interview, too, and I think Uematsu is right: FF VII may be a steampunk 'setting' but in many ways it's a cyberpunk story
@EsquilaxM3 жыл бұрын

Invite Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura to your party, and trust me, you can now easily handle Chaos, Emperor Mateus, Cloud of Darkness, Zeromus, Neo-Exdeath, Kefka and Sephiroth all at the same time. It's technically the same as using a "God Mode" cheat code.
