Johnny Bond (Interviewer): He got his first break in the late 1930s and went on to join Gene Autry's Melody Ranch in 1940 and was later a regular on the 1950s Los Angeles country music television series Town Hall Party. He is best known for his 1947 hit "Divorce Me C.O.D.," one of his seven top ten hits on the Billboard country charts. He died in 1978. Bond was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, and to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Poor Eddie Cochran--he never got over his friend Buddy Holly's death, and this was right after it happened; this must have been tough for him. Buddy's funeral was that same day.

Eddie was one of the truly great artist of R'n'R. A wonderful singer as well as guitarist and performer.This is an awesome piece of American music history dispite the fact that Eddie was being ''talked at'' more than interveiwed. Eddie Cochran died before i was born, and yet i miss him.LONG LIVE REAL AMERICAN MUSIC.

Yes, Eddie was a no B.S. down to Earth guy and I wish I got to meet him. I went to his grave last Summer to pay my respects and it was very moving.

Eddie Cochran, had just about everything!! Good looks, a wonderful voice, amazing talent and as seen here, manners. I believe i have every song/instrumental that Eddie ever recorded, and when i watch this wondeful video, it's like watching and listening to an old friend. Also a regular on the show was Bobby Helms, who originally recorded "Jingle Bell Rock." And this program also included visits by giants of country and roots rock, such as Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, George Jones, Carl Perkins, and The Burnette Bros. Trio. Quite simply, "THP" was to country & rockabilly what "Hullabaloo," "Ready Steady Go!" and "Shindig!" were to rock & roll..

Give this guy and this show some credit. "Town Hall Party" (repackaged for syndication by Screen Gems as ""Western Ranch Party") was, in fact, a showcase for country-western and rockabilly, and among its regulars were The Collins Kids (a brother-sister rockabilly act who were dynamo). Lorrie Collins was, for a time, the fiancee of the underrated rockabilly artist and TV star Ricky Nelson, and brother Larry maneuvered his double-neck ax like a grown man.

The interviewer does talk a lot but you have to be fair and say he's a pleasant guy.

But bear in mind that this show's audience also included a broader demographic than mere young people, and as such had to be family-oriented. And this was still seven years before The Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Even then, there was a minor furor (which seems silly in light of what's transpired since) about the mere length of the 1960s' male rock & rollers' hair, let alone the music itself.

You have to watch this interview a few more times to give the old boy a chance. Consider what he might well have been up against. Can see all your points though. However, just to really shake it up a bit,.. over here in the 50's, the chastity belt was well and truly on when it came to Rock'n'roll!. You were lucky to be able to listen to Max Bygraves Or some singing dogs. This a very interesting interview many thanks.

Heck, my parents thought Frank Sinatra was evil, because of his mob ties and the fact of his mother being an abortionist (then still illegal). As such, his talent was irrelevant in their minds. But they were fans of Perry Como and Nat King Cole, so no bias against Italians or jazz. It was simply a question of decency.

But it was programs such as this and Sullivan's that took risks and regularly, but politely, introduced the viewing audience to rock & roll. If this poor guy wasn't the hippest cat on the planet, keep in mind he was asking those questions for average Americans, many of who, back then, were apalled by this new genre of popular music--just as today there are many who are put off by hip-hop and rap.
