If you want to jump to each lick to check it out or play along with it after learning: Lick 1 = 0:55, Lick 2 = 2:53, Lick 3 = 5:02, Lick 4 = 6:35, Lick 5 = 7:59. Hope this helps! Great lessons, great licks!

very well done........there's a 1000 more to explore....May I add: Eddies sense of groove and timing is the secret to the sauce...ie - when it was time to really mash on the gas Eddie rhythmically was like like a great drummer pushing the beat but not speeding up or losing control check out the riffs from the studio versions of Super Stupid, Standing On The Verge, Good To Your Earhole, Comin' 'Round The Mountain, Alice In My Fantasies....have mercy!) I have been trying to emulate EH for over 40 years .

Nice video. Great memories of watching Eddie Hazel and Michael Hampton duel 6 strings on stage back in the 70's. I am sure that I have some hearing loss from those epic concerts.

TastyGuitar.com I am fortunate to have grown up in the 70's. All the major R&B and Funk Bands would cycle through town and I have seen everyone from Sly Stone, EWF, James Brown, Brothers Johnson, Rick James, Commodores, BarKays, Cameo, Bootsy Collins and countless other groups while in their prime. We didn't have KZbin back then so me and all of my guitar playing buddies would go early to scope out the gear and when the house lights went down and the show began, we were only feet away from Ernie Isley, Larry Graham, Eddie Hazel or whoever the featured string bender was. After the show, we would go home and try to play back their parts note for note...from remembering what we saw. It wasn't just the Funk acts I remember either. Saw Kiss, Peter Frampton, Ted Nugent, Mahogany Rush, TRex and dozens of Rock acts. It was a cool time to be a young guitar player...

Oldskool Funk right on, growing up in the 80s there wasn't nearly as many good shows happening but fortunately I had a mom with great taste in music and was exposed to all this old school stuff at an early age

Great stuff ! All these R'n'B, funk rhythms + fills are ALL important to the role of the guitarist in a band. Played well with pretty authentic tone & feel too. Well done old chap

If lick 5 is signature Eddie Hazel, did David Gilmour rip it off for "Another Brick in the Wall"?
@TastyGuitarcom2 ай бұрын
Haha, hard to say, all these licks were lifted off of Eddie's 1977 release Dames, Games, and Guitar Thangs. The Wall was released in 1979... so maybe Gilmour lifted it, but probably more likely that great minds think alike :)

Rick! Hopefully you get to read this.. Have you seen the Live Funkadelic broadcast here on the Tube? kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip7Qq5WMgpp1g9k .... The first song is "What Is Soul" and has Eddie jamming the rhythm in the background and is THE funkiest guitar i've ever heard.. 0:45 to 1:30 is a good example... I've got the gist of what he's doing but can't nail the rhythm... he 'chicks' the high B&E strings for a nice percussive effect, but he seems to be hitting them between certain beats, and I just can't seem nail the rhythm... Care to do a lesson on that national treasure??
@TastyGuitarcom4 жыл бұрын
I have seen this before, that's some stanky stuff. There are a couple videos on my channel that teach this technique, check out my lessons on the funky flutter and shake everything you got.
@AliciaandScott4 жыл бұрын
@@TastyGuitarcom thanks for the quick reply. I did check the flutter video out, thanks! There's 2 guitars in the garage P Funk video which makes it harder to hear whos playing what.. Looks like Eddie is using a slightly hybrid version of that strum technique.. Sounds like he sneaks in an upstroke on the high strings. Anyway, keep up the good work, you've earned yourself a new customer!
