I remember my brother playing this song (he was a big temptations fan). Hard to believe it came out almost 40 years ago. Also hard to believe how much my generation took this music for granted. Thanks to KZbin, all we need to do is see a song's title and say "So THAT'S who sang that song!" Man, I've re-discovered over 1000 songs from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. The musicians in those days were BAAD!!!
@movalle224 ай бұрын
We took it for granted because we all assumed great music would always continue to come to us. A contractor was at my home today and he said "Is that Dionne Warwick you're playing? I am like, yes. He's like "Back when there was good music."

It's been said by people that Eddie Kendricks previous relationship with Diana Ross and not being a Kiss Ass type of person played factored into why Eddie J Kendricks received the runaround/screwaround at Motown Records Clearly he is a pioneer, creative, model like looks, vocally unique...etc..but he does seem to be aloof. Of all falsetto tenors, Mr. Kendricks was the very best. Smooth, silky and a range unimaginable. I remember the Supremes and Temptations collaboration "I'm going to get your baby", where Eddie surpassed Diana Ross in the upper range. Eddie owned that collaborative by far. I'm 24 and I agree this song is so beautiful....i don't understand why this is unknown to so many. Eddie Kendrick is so under rated its not even funny. His voice cries so much in this record. If only he knew how much of an impact he truly had on even the generation to come
@LIsMRMOTOWN10 жыл бұрын
Motown never released this as a 45. Although an excellent album cut, it would have had to take an adventurous deejay to create the demand to force Motown to release this as a single.
@TruthSerum1019 жыл бұрын
LOL. Corruption notwithstanding, there are million possible reasons why a record doesn't become a hit. Big hits are rarities - no matter how good the music is or the promotion behind it. Besides, was this even released as a single? It appeared on an album with a number one single and that's pretty damn impressive in itself.
@TruthSerum1019 жыл бұрын
Renee Hines On what planet is Eddie Kendricks underrated? That term is so OVERUSED. I hate to see the accomplishments of artists diminished with words like underrated. Eddie Kendricks was heard by millions of listeners and was constantly praised by critics. There are phenomenal falsetto singers who never even get the chance to record. The music industry is much more difficult than people realize - Eddie Kendricks beat the odds in a game where there are very few slots for success.
@MsTrueTy9 жыл бұрын
TruthSerum101 For people my age which is 20's he doesn't get half the praise he deserves as a solo artist. You are absoulutely right he beat the odds and thanks to unsung people can appreciate this aritist more. Its not to disrespect an artist to be called underated. but to call out the critics and their choices to ignore some artist while praise others. I hope you understand where I am coming from. I love Eddie Kendricks and have all his work...and I just wish all music could be broadcasted equally, and giving the level of praise it deserves

A voice that has such an impact on me, a master of the ballad...his whisper had the emotional impact of a full blow hurricane, this is such a beautiful dignified plea to a lost love...heart breaking..like all of his motown albums, the production is beautiful and his magnificent voice is given full reign and it is a gorgeous rich and intoxicating sound. Much missed, but a treasure trove of sounds left behind..Thanks for posting...
