Simple, really: he didn't debut until after ECW was gone. Could you imagine him in ECW during the 90s? He would have _owned_ that company! But when he debuted in 2002 it was just WWE, with TNA springing up around the same time. He wouldn't have been given a chance in WWE and he didn't make it to TNA until 2016, when any chance of that promotion being a "major player" on the national stage was long gone. Eddie was basically waiting for a promotion like AEW to arrive to give him the platform he needed to hit the big time.

Eddie comes off as very authentic and that is why everyone gravitates towards him. I never heard of him until AEW and instantly his presence grabs you and makes you believe everything is real. Absolutely fantastic stuff.

That very first match against Cody was the first time I've ever even heard of Eddie Kingston. The promo before and the match itself were great but it was the promo after that really sold me. You can see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice, wrestling is his life. I was one of those thousands of people who took to Twitter to tell Tony to sign this guy. I knew he was going to be special and he's a perfect fit. Definitely world champion material down the road. Love ya Eddie ❤

He's just doing a friendly interview, and he offhandedly starts laying the groundwork for a potential HUGE feud down the line. And he aims a shot at the HEART of MJF with one line- MJF isn't the world's biggest douchebag that he pretends to be because of the idea that making someone angry gives you power over them; he's a pretender who tries to puff himself up and make himself look big to hide his weakness. The feud may happen, it may not, but Eddie's setting it up already anyway. Awesome. Eddie is my favourite active wrestler in the industry today.
