I don't think younger folks today, who know who Eddie Murphy is, realize just how big of a star he was back in the day! He was a TV star, he had a bunch of hit movies, and he was one of the biggest stand up comedians in the world. And this was a collaboration with Rick James to get him into the recording industry. So he was a superstar for me growing up. Especially his stand up shows Delirious and Raw. Some of the best stand up comedy shows ever.

@@KneeJerkReactions13 Well last time I checked, I think we can all have our opinions. Rick James was cheesy quite frequently throughout his career, and that was just part of who he was. The video is a must watch because they can see who is doing backup vocals and the fact that RJ produced it. The video is also a great memory from my childhood. Perhaps it is you who should reign in your opinion, since you were so quick to tell me I was wrong.

Rick James, the deeper-sounding voice in the song, has a song called Super Freak that was very popular in the early '80s. During Eddie Murphy's standup comedy acts in the early eighties, he would sing a bit as part of his comedy skit (making fun of Elvis) and he had a good singing voice.

When I was in high school we used to pass around a tape with “Wienie Whistler” by Bobby Jimmy. We were all convinced it was Eddie Murphy rapping. It sounds exactly like him doing a funny voice. It turns out it was a radio DJ and Dr. Dre. I still like to think it’s Eddie Murphy. The humor was just like his, anyway.

Haha ye I loved this tune with Rick James for years, but I'd never actually heard that other one until very recently, I was watching Dimitri from Paris doing a DJ set on youtube and he randomly dropped that in the middle of it. I knew it was Eddie's voice instantly and I thought it was pretty funky but was only half listening to it in the background really and then I started properly listening to the lyrics and was just like what in the actual f*ck is Eddie on about! It is catchy though.

This song was pretty much considered a joke when it came out. I wonder how many people are like me and liked it but kept it under wraps. It was on MTV a lot, so someone had to like it. He referenced it a few times in his stand-up. His sets often included his relationship problems and it led people to winder "is this the party all the time girl?" And "That Voice!" is none other than Super Freak singer Rick James. If you watch the old Chappelle show Eddie's brother was on the show and would tell stories about people like Rick James and Prince.
