One of the most important guitars in Country and Rock N Roll history. Merle Travis was an important contributer to both Country music and Rock N Roll. This guitar now has a good home and place at the Country Music Hall Of Fame in Nashville.

Eddie Pennington is the real deal. I've had the pleasure of seeing him a bunch of times at the Chet Fest in Nashville. In addition to being a killer good guitar player, he's a really nice guy.

I understand why Tommy Emmanuel refers to Eddie Pennington when talkin about learning and preserving that Merle Travis sound.

Other than Merle and Mose I would call Eddie the King of thumbpickers and he does a fine interpretation of those two fellas too. Alonzo certainly grew up to be a star also. Too bad the whole thing, music and his commentary isn't for sale I have to believe it would have sold well because it's of course fabulous but the quality of the recording is great too.

He says ~ 40':22" That he's practicing with it for a show on 12 Aug 1989 in Central City KY for the Everly Brother's homecoming... (their Pa was Ike Everly, friend, peer and compatriot of Mose Rager and Merle Travis...)

Gibson made another for Travis, this one, but to different specs -- maple top and (es335 style) center block.
@pauljackson97612 жыл бұрын
He says @ 2:40 it "was the last guitar Gibson built for him" (Travis). Shortly before Travis passed, Gibson reached out to him and offered to build anything to his specs if he would donate his original Super 400 to the HOF. Travis, in an interview that can be found here on YT - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn2ymZ6Qe8xqlac - described this guitar with its maple top and center block, which is not a typical Super 400. He said that, at the time, it was the most expensive guitar Gibson ever built.
