‘And so on..!’ To whom it may help on the journey to fingerpicking, here are some songs I learned first when getting started in this style: - doc watson - deep river blues - mark knopfler - postcards from paraguay (great instruction video available from pavel fomenkov with ‘mark knopfler songbook’) - Mark knopfler - Get Lucky (good quality tabs are available online) - Freight train (pretty basic which is good, but it missed the oomph I enjoyed) - Chet Atkins - Windy and Warm (stellar song in my opinion, and some good instructions on YT as well)

Wow Richard I been playing guitar since I was a kid...60 plus years but thus is so difficult yet brilliant a great LIGHT you are. God continue to bless you in your life and concerts and teachings. Just the first 4 note thumb bass adding the other "lead" note on 1234 or the" ands " will be a lifetime of learning for my thumb brain. THANKS again for a great lesson. What seems easy is not so easy but growing learning expanding.

I don't play in this style at all. But I think the tips and techiniques presented by Richard are not hard to digest and are the most practical I've seen on KZbin yet; they get to the heart of how a guitarist can combine a melody with an independent rhythm much like pianists do. And do this in a fun way.

What I see in contrast to what Tommy Emmanuel says about the right hand....Richard doesn’t anchor down the pinky like Tommy says to do...I suppose that’s just preference....it is the Chet Atkins way & Tommy has adopted that...which is best...? Well like I said preference...what works best for you.
@BrunodeSouzaLino
@BrunodeSouzaLino 3 жыл бұрын
Richard seems to go for a more classical guitar approach, where your hand is always floating and muting the strings. That may or may not be necessary, since he plays on a nylon string guitar and you don't need much muting on that kind of strings in practice.

That's a student spacing classical guitar. A full spacing model will be essentially as wide as a 7 string neck. You need that spacing to allow the fingers to move without constantly rubbing against each other.
