Maybe it's a stupid question, but what is the first instrument? Tymime (below) thinks it's a banjolin, but it doesn't look like any banjolins I've seen pictures of.
@HotRodSixString
@HotRodSixString 8 жыл бұрын
It's a banjoline . With a basic tenor banjo type configuration except the high strings are doubled . It was possibly tuned C G D A with the D being a double course of strings tuned in octaves and the A being a double course of strings being tuned in unison . I read he is credited for inventing this instrument .

Never a "country picker," he was a sophisticated jazz musician who happened to play banjo. It's easy to surmise that he was originally a jazz guitarist. Same as Bela Fleck today, but Peabody may have been even greater. He was most likely the greatest banjo virtuoso of all time. Expanded the possibilities of the instrument, much like Jascha Heifetz on violin or Art Tatum on piano. I saw him playing solo banjo at the Elks club w/ my father in 1962. I'll never forget it!
@taylordiclemente5163

It's the other way around. The plectrum banjo was the standard accompaniment instrument for jazz bands until the 1930s, when it was replaced by the new archtop guitar. At that time, many banjo players switched over.

Ed you madman! I think he was making that one gal a little uncomfortable towards the end there when he started really getting into it.I think she thought Ed was starting to come unhinged like he might suddenly throw the banjo out the window and leap on her. Yargh!
