This is why Eddie was the greatest guitarist that will ever be. He did things with the guitar that no one had ever done before and no matter how drunk he was during a concert it was exactly like it was on the record when he first recorded it unless he was purposely making changes to extend the performance for the enjoyment of the fans. There is a very good reason that GUITAR WORLD MAGAZINE gave him the title of "Guitar God!" No one will ever play as creatively or as jaw dropping as King Edward did may he never be forgotten. ♥️🌹

Eddie was actually very humble. I met one of Van Halen's roadies and he said Eddie would sit down with kids and play for them before a concert and basically told them he doesn't know where it comes from. he said he is just channeling something from the universe. Something just flows through him. He didn't take credit for it.

It wasn't for fun, it was because Alex used to come early from school and went straight to the drum kit. Eddie got fed up with it and one day said to himself "ok, you stole my drums, I'm gonna steal your guitar". The rest, as they say, is history. : )

@@Module79L Good to know! When I was in a band, whenever our singer left the room, I used to swap my guitar for the drum kit, the drummer got on the bass guitar, and the bassist took my guitar. It's basically a slap bass thing. One time I went to a Billy Sheehan bass clinic where he was showing some slap technique. I asked if he could demonstrate the opening to Mean Street. He replied, "Man, if I had a nickel for every time a guitar player asked me that..." *cue audience laughter* It was at that moment I realised I had just outed myself as a guitar player in a room full of bassists lol. A guitar solo that mesmerizes you for thirteen minutes. He was a god. And his brother on the drums was always in sync with him. RIP EVH!

I was a huge EVH fan in high school back in 1980 and spent years trying to play the stuff he did when he was only like 20. I still can't play it right. the guy was a total freak. :) when I saw them in concert, couldn't believe how he played everything like it was nothing. he was jumping around and almost like he wasn't even trying

I saw the previous tour before this video. It was the 1984 tour,it was their last tour with David Lee Roth and I was 16. I am blessed to have witnessed him perform his alchemy live. Imagine hearing what he's doing but at arena level volume! There's no way to describe it,really. He was just pure magic. But what made Eddie so special was when you watch him play he's always smiling. He made playing guitar look fun, like any great rock guitarist should. I can for sure tell you this; A million years will pass and in that time there will NEVER be another like him. I guess God wanted to start a band and got the best guitar player he could find.

You guys were asking when Eddie's parents knew he was a prodigy... Eddie took classical piano lessons as a kid. He ended up winning recitals he was so good. In fact he learned to play the great classical pieces BY EAR. Ed sat with his piano teacher one time and was supposed to turn the pages of the sheet music for his teacher while the teacher was playing. When Ed failed to turn the page at the right time, his teacher got angry - then realized Ed didn't know how to read the notes because he had taught himself to play all the classical pieces he knew by ear! That's how much of a prodigy he was. Later, he taught himself to play guitar and applied that same amazing musical sense. Having been a great pianist from an early age, and a natursl, he applied that pianist's approach to guitar.
