Page's solo here is simply a staggering achievement and one of the best ever recorded. He makes his guitar sing, he makes it cry, he makes it laugh, he makes it wail, he makes it yearn and ultimately, he makes it transcend space and time; by taking us into a journey of our mind and our consciousness.

I think what made Zeppelin great was that it was a true group. You could love their music and still not know the lead singers name. When they played live they could change it up and individually still follow each other seamlessly. I don’t think we have bands like that anymore.

Way back in my teenage years, this video was from MSG in 1973 and included in the movie "The Song Remains the Same", when we went to a concert we pretty much heard what was on the album you had been listening to for months on end. The only exception was some of the songs might've been a little longer due to some extra solo work or jamming by the band. This song was 8 minutes and change on Zeppelin IV, in concert it would range from 10 to near 20 minutes. Oh back in high school I had the poster of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant from this show on my bedroom wall right along side of the two poster from Pink Floyds "Dark Side of the Moon" and my black light poster o the Castle on the Hill I bought at our local head shop.

I graduated highschool in 1972 ( yeah, im still kicking) and for an assignment in social studies, a buddy of mine and myself decided to use Stairway to Heaven and make a movie ( thats what we called it back then, not video) with my Dads Super 8 camera, and we filmed it up the side of a graveyard which overlooked a grass meadow and for the girl we used and she already knew the song, we more or less let her run the acting part which was a huge benefit and we all got an A on the project! Then we all graduated in June 1972 and within a few years we went our own ways! I wonder if they are still alive or pushing up dasies! Anyway, i like listening to you two! You're full of life and realy appreciate music from my time! Jeez, i was born in 1953 so now im 70! I have a long, long, road I traveled! Once they finally released this film on VHS I bought it and I wore out the tape. We used to have parties and late at night I brought out this and played it loud .. fucking loud and a high quality stereo .. We would be smokin' and drinking .. a DJ I knew used to play Since I've Been Loving You as the final smooch song of the night and people loved it. But Stairway got even bigger than the band .. it is an impossible peak to climb. I can not even give any rational reasons or argue anyway about it since it is too closely ingrained in my fabric. It is the ONE SONG for me. I usually avoid playing it nowadays for that very reason. There are very few songs, perhaps a handful, that have this effect on me. Stairway is a diamond among them.
