Chris was at the center of the 70's and 80's SoCal metal scene. The guy was part of The Golden era of Metal Imo. Mr. Holmes is No frikkin Slouch on the Axe Himself.

That's true! My band had the chance to open ,we didn't do it! The band I was in was glam ,and I was just playing in it until I could put what I wanted together! We would have been killed ,so ,no way! Maybe my band Trick Or Treat ,but that was in 1987 and capital records was looking for a new WASP ,and Blackie was already messing up ,so we almost got it,,but the singer freaked out, and that was that ! But we could have gone up against them ,if there was time travel !

I spent a lot of time at Dave's house in the arroyo by the Rose Bowl during the early 80s. If I remember correctly he bought the house from his father, Dr. Roth, who was also our eye doctor, in San Marino, as children. Dave had a room in this huge house that was built out to be a habitat for squirrels and rabbits. It was a bedroom that had logs and tree stumps with a screen door. What a trip. I believe that Dr. Roth also owned Perkins Palace, a legendary music venue on Raymond Ave. in Pasadena. This was a magical time to grow up in So Cal, and we were always so proud to claim Eddie and the boys as our own. Thanks for the stories, background, and memories, Chris. You are another product of the San Gabriel Valley, who made us proud..

I met Chris years ago after a WASP gig. We were at a club and I invited him to sit at our table. He was really down to earth and he actually told us that night about growing up around Eddie. He got in an argument with Blackie because he and Randy wanted to hang out after the club closed and Blackie wasnt into it. Chris said fuck Blackie and we all hung out anyway. It was really chill. Just some drinks and some smoke and we sat around listening to tunes. It was a really great night.

What Eddie van Halen did, when he plays his guitar, it turns on a little light inside my head that made me see the world less dark as I normally did. Terry Pratchett's books do the same thing with me. Apart from being just greatly skilled craftsmen, they had something very special.....that makes their passing so devastating....it leaves the world just that much darker.....at least to me.

I have loved and adored EVH since I was in 8th grade 1980, in 1985 or 1986 I went to an Iron Maiden concert in long Beach, I was walking on the floor waiting for maiden to start so I could climb over people to get to the front row, so I'm standing around the back of the floor seats by all the PA's and here comes this dude, tall, long kick ass blonde hair, levis jeans and jacket, boots and a cigarette in his mouth unlit, I immediately recognized him, I said his name Chris Holmes, and he says , yeah, smiling, I then immediately realized the unlit cigarette in his mouth, right at that time he was about to ask me for a light, I had 1 match left and already had it lit before he asked, and he was totally appreciative and thanked me whole heatedly, for a fan like myself, it was awsome, the timing and everything, I became a Chris Holmes fan after that, after that maiden concert, I went to the judas priest concert, in long beach, I was walking in the halls going toward the doors where you enter into the backstage area, and coming out of those doors I see Chris Holmes again with 2 girls on each arm, as we were walking toward each other I said hey Chris, good to see you again, and Chris says, hey man, with a huge smile , I asked as he walked by, do you remember me? And to my shock, he said, yeah man, Maiden", and then gave me a thumbs up, I became a Chris Holmes fan for life after that, not a fan because he was famous , a fan of his heart and how he treated people that recognized him, I tell this story to whoever I'm talking rock days stories, and how cool Chris treated me whenever I ran into him, sorry for the long story, knowing now Chris grew up with my hero Ed Van Halen, I'm even more of a fan of Chris's. Thanks Chris , RIP ED!!!

Ive heard most of this when Chris lived in my garage ,and he had 2 or 3 Marshall stacks straight from Eddie! When Chris or I was playing through them ,they sounded great! I had a friend that was a Van Halen clone ,he came over and played through the amps, they sounded exactly like Eddie! And Eddie met my Mom once and they hit it off and put her on the list for every show on the final tour ! So it was my Mom on the list for the final show at the Hollywood bowl. I have a ton of stories of the van Halen family and my Great grandmother grew up next door to them . And it was the cigarettes that got Eddie ,and I heard him say he wouldn't stop smoking bevause he couldn't drink and now he couldn't smoke! It's smoking that got Eddie, and it sucks! I have heard so many stories from Chris, and playing in our band Rat Bastard ,sounds a lot like WASP! Chris also grew up Mormon ,and so did I, so Chris is always great to listen to! I saw every Van Halen tour . And it was Glendale civic auditorium where Quiet Riot and VAN Halen . It is amazing how many people really never saw the real van halen with DLR!

@ The Metal Voice Thank you for such a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to our King Edward. The Missus woke me up crying and for the entire day we couldn’t listen to a note of King Edward without the waterworks comin’ - so many good times with his music -it felt weird We found watching interviews with him and other kind folks like yourself paying tribute to Eddie makes it somewhat easier to bear. We literally had a day of intensely mourning. It might sound daft but Ed’s playing and attitude is hugely responsible for inspiring me to be the person I am. There’s a Bad Religion ( Punk Band ) Lyric that says it al “ Everyone you love leaves a mark on your soul, The world is a little less bright without King Edward Im fighting cancer and depression and its been especially tough with the news of Eddie’s passing but hearing all these wonderful tributes and reaction and the love and joy he brought and is bringing….makes it a tad bit easier Much love and respect! Thank you for honouring our King Edward. Eddie's music touched us so deeply because of his love for the instrument and the innovations he has done. To us, it feels like the brightest and best brother, Uncle, friend you ever had is not in our realm anymore. You have Nothing but love from the rock/metal / guitarist community, respect for your tribute to EVH, Rock n Metal does not get the exposure and respect that other genres get. So, you are forever in the hearts of many a Rock / Metal / Guitar fan's hearts. Stay safe & all the best wishes to you. That whole "Eddie turning his back to the crowd thing" probably happened for a short period, then they said "fuck it"...and that racism stuff probably happen before Chris met Eddie.

Fuck that word...our ancestors were tribal...they had in group preference to protect their women, land, resources ....this was weaponized by Joseph Stalin to create division under communism ...it's now a tactic of socialism/cultural Marxism

I was at those parties Chris Holmes mentions back in the day when Van Halen was Mammoth. There were backyard parties, van and car club parties, etc. all over the San Gabriel Valley and Mammoth played many of them. In fact there were so many of them that it was a given every weekend you came to expect to see Mammoth as the band.
