I dont know if its deliberate, but I love how he flashes the desert as he speaks of time in the first chorus. It reminds me of his older music talking about “the sands of time” and how, as a metaphor, sand and time are so similar as time covers the past like sands washing over civilizations

i think siren-like character is another girl that basically destroyed the couple's relationship and by "killing" the guy (as in video) she changed him to her liking so the original girl does not recognize him anymore.
