This is the episode I never knew I wanted until I saw it. I have utmost respect for the Cirque du Soleil and I was always impressed by the band(s) performance. But I never tried to "Google" how it actually works for the Cirque musicians. It's quite intense. Hats off to Eden, true professional right there. And thank you Drumeo for all this great content.

My first Cirque show was Saltimbanco. The band was visible. The last show I saw was with Didi Negron and like you, I thought she crushed it. The platform she was on was rolled out twice during the performance. I was kind of sad that the band was not displayed. For me it took away from the whole experience.

Showband gig on cruise ships is a great way to accumulate professional experience and routine in reading charts and playing various styles of music. I just finished a 7 month contract on a ship and will start a 6 month contract in February, planning to audition for Cirque in the future.

One of my favorite drumming videos is of a guy (I can’t remember his name) drumming for Barnum & Bailey. It blows my mind that they use live performers, but also something so simple as a circus or an acrobatics show still needs technically proficient performers to make the music come alive.

The guy is Chaz Chambers and is phenomenal. So many moving parts in the music and the sheer amount of it. He had a drum book but he seemed to have most of the stuff memorized.

Saw Cirque Du Soleil way back sometime between 1996-1998 & the music is what struck me! With all respect to the acrobatic performers. The drumming was bloody unreal as were the guitars etc. The band was stunningly unbelievable and underappreciated in my opinion - at least back then. Well done Drumeo for having this guy on. Your's Sincerely, a frustrated non-drummer but a hobbyist guitar player.

Eden is simply an amazing drummer, but more, a person who has exceptional talent. His performance in Calgary was spectacular, and his session with Israel Strom at the Bell Studio was a showpiece of his improvisation capabilities. Israel views this to be a high-point in his young career. Cirque is the very best of such a moving dynamic performance. Our very best to Eden.

Wonderful! My present gig is in a form I never dreamed, but in the faintest details. Cirkus Pandemonium is a much smaller operation, but the music gives me a workout through any and all genres and percussion to assist fire dancers where I can chop all I want. In many ways it's better than anything I ever dreamed up from my ego.

Please keep doing these in place of those cringe "Ive nvr heard this popular song but lets see what happens" videos. 2 hrs x3 night with live music director, dynamic music sheet and a line of dudes ready to take your job the moment you get sick. Over thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas, i see one of the main girls in the cirque solei at bellagio . I generally get to see her perform for free and i asked her about the drums etc and She got me an early entry . They actually perform all music live every show and I got to see the drums , its an electric Roland . I got to see the her show from the musicians box and it was so cool to see. I always thought that it was a recording to save money but no, no expense is sacrificed. I’m a very blessed guy to have a thing with her due to I’ve learned so much on how it works. Was surprised that she makes 200k and well deserved lol. Those musicians don’t make what she makes but that seems like such a unique fun job. I told her that if we get married she has to get me a drum gig with cirque hahahaha

This brought back a lot of memories. I played with Circus America. Didn't work with a click. All of the cues in our show were visual..." hand signals" or called out by the director. No inears. For me, I had to watch the performers and the director. It got to a point that he and I developed telepathy. Fun times! Great memories!

When he first did the playthrough I'm like, yeah, okay, nice parts, then he explained and demonstrated with the calls and I was like sitting here my jaw on the floor the first minute or so. Then I started looking at when they are calling the cues and I understood even before Eden explained it's on the landings (it was obvious once I looked for it). But man it must take a lot of mental energy to concentrate on the calls and always play the right part and especially think outside of 4/4 since it's pretty much 1/4 all the time.

I saw a performance when I was like 12 (dragged off by mom and sister) and I was absolutely fucking drooling the entire time the music, lights, HIGH FLYING stunts, story telling, and overall energy of the performance was stupefying! 10/10 recommend for any ages the performers are all elite level and imo some of the best at what they do, I'm willing to bet even the jugglers have some kind of juggling license or something.
