I think i have an explination to this video. We start off looking at the man sitting in a chair with a beer, obviously looking depressed. When the camera zooms in on him and then pans to the right, we are actually entering into his mind and seeing how he feels. He then starts stumbling around what looks like a desolate city (possibly inspired by Chernobyl) and not sure of what he is doing. As he is stumbling around, he looks around, not even sure of what he wants or what he is looking for. He then finds the same chair he was sitting in at the beginning and he begins walking towards it. We then cut back to him in his apartment now sitting up. I think that at this point he realizes that he needs to fix his life (which is the start to recovery, admitting that there is a problem). This matches up with what EDEN says in his last verse "don't feel much better but I guess it's a start". So, what do y'all think?
@cz.72427 жыл бұрын
No, I don´t think so. When the camera starts moving to the window, it´s still the sight of the man. I think he is dreaming of ending his life because he is flying out of his window. When he finally stops dreaming he still feels depressed.
@AnonyMous-pb6nj7 жыл бұрын
I agree that the atmosphere seems desolated outside, but I don't think it's inspired by Chernobyl. If you look at HLM from French culture the buildings seem incredibly reminiscent of that imagery. I also don't think that there's a significant change in his sitting position at the start and in the end. I don't believe that the video is meant to reflect exactly what the song is saying, but it's certainly supposed to share a similar theme to the song. I read a 4000 word analysis write up on the song and the music video which seemed spot on

His voice crack at the end of the line “I’ve got nothing to say to you” just hit me so hard. Eden is going through some tough shit. But instead of letting it sit inside him and rot, he makes it into this beautiful music that honestly taught me what real music is. This music really shows why music is considered an art.

MusicalDoodles :3 well if you listen to the song, it seems like he misses someone that left him or passed away. so maybe he's expressing his feelings into his songs, the voice crack near the end shows that he really is putting emotion into the song.
@gracep96437 жыл бұрын
MusicalDoodles :3 I read somewhere that this song is written about a friend or loved one that died in a car crash, but I’m not sure. It would make sense with the name tho.
@starluuvvss7 жыл бұрын
Grace P yeah it would make sense because of the name. but either way, despite what it is, he's going through something that caused him to make such emotional songs where he puts so much emotion in them.
@nightd1137 жыл бұрын
I think EDEN is writing about his past self. Not about someone else or an emotion. “ I grew up to be exactly what you wanted” from a very young age Jon always wanted to be the person he is today. It also connects to “ I been living out the dream that you dreamt of" so he is talking about his past self dreaming about becoming an artist and now he is living that dream. Also when he talks about when he was 16 and how he should have known, maybe he was talking about not falling in love because then it would hurt him in the future and so he is saying his younger self made choices that fucked him up.

Kind of reminds me of "Wake up" in a sense as "Wake up" could also be put in away like he is talking to him self trying to stop him from chasing his own dream scared it would fail. He has now pulled it off but now that other half is still judging him and putting him down even though he is exactly where he wants, and of course it has been a few years since "Wake up". Perhaps that one really is just me, but I all ways feel a link between other songs and try to put together my interpretation of a story.
@NoCareLuke6 жыл бұрын
He might be referring to 'Eden Project', his EDM moniker. He was making music, but in his retrospect, it didn't fit with the emotions he wanted to show. Despite wiping the slate clean, Eden's demons still haunt him.

I can't listen to an Eden song the same ever again. I can't without it hurting a little. Some used to make me smile, laugh, but they just hurt now. I won't be able to look at the stars, fireworks, or lay under a tree the same cause those were things that you always talked about. I know rock + roll was your favorite Eden song, one of them at least. You always play it on your guitar and I even have recordings of it. On the phone I knew if u got bored you'd play your guitar, and although you might've thought I wasn't listening, I was, and it was one of those things that made me really fucking happy. You asked me if I would support you if you decided to be musician, ofc I would. You would be amazing, you have so much unseen talent. I would support with almost anything.lI remember how excited you got when u first learned to play songs, you got so happy. The first Eden song you told me to listen to was circles, then end credits, cause u said it reminded u of me. But I listen to wake up cause it was the first song that popped up. I remember you telling me you didn't like the term fallen in love cause it meant they've stopped falling. You liked the term falling better cause you said you would continue falling even if I hit the ground before me. I don't think that's true and you'll find many better prettier people than me. I wrote this here mostly cause I know this song hits you pretty hard, and it does me too, it makes me cry, even when you were here and happy. It's beautiful and it always makes me think of you. All I can think about tho is you thinking about Her. Yes I'm jealous, I will admit that full of shame. I don't want to lose you but I can't be with u before you find yourself and what makes you happy I'll just hold you back. I'm not going to text you until Dec 13 and I already am obligated to go through with that. I miss you. I miss kissing you and the feeling that lingered afterwards. I miss the warmth of your hugs and the safety of your hands. I miss you laying your head on my shoulder and me playing with your hair. I love you.... More than anything... You've always know that and I don't want you to forget... I think you'll always be on my mind. I'm never gonna forget you. I couldnt forget my first love. I know you're lost, and I hope you do well Michael and everything turns out alright in the end. I love you.. I'm sorry.

LYRICS : [Intro] It's been a few years since you've been gone There's been a few tears, but that was years and years ago Yeah, I grew up to be exactly what you wanted Yeah, I been living out the dream that you dreamt up It's been a few years with more to come It's been a few years since I've felt sure of what I want And I woke up today and found that you were waiting here for me and I thought Woah, old friend it's bittersweet How could you do this to me? How could you do this to me? Yeah [Verse 1] 'Cos you are not who you think you are There's no grain on these brown eyes, but they can be green if they really want And I can bend your words so they say exactly what hurts the most But silence is better than fake laughs or faking were always up, loose grip The world bends around you And living through cracked screens We fall fold down to what we want Out of love, we talk through lines, we're made of smoke And just in time, we drift away Diffusing light, confusing times Growing up, or cascading down? Cascading down I'm hurting now [Verse 2] But change comes slow If you hate what's in your head, the fuck would you speak your mind? In search of lost time Just 21 so I'm young and I'm stupid Only 16, yeah I think you should've known I think you fucked me up I think, I think you fucked me up And I've got nothing to say to you [Outro] It's been a few years and I've moved on Couldn't make it disappear, oh I tried so hard to be strong But I grew up today and faced that I'm not just lonely Don't feel much better but I guess that it's a start

At 0:52 I think there's a picture of the family we see in Gold. The man in this video could be the father of this family which somehow ended up seperated. It would make sense considering the song is about life crashing into small things you experience everyday and people leaving you (which is a painful process that can sometimes make you lose yourself). Can't wait to what's next for this story. Beautiful song and beautiful videos
@xQcWilliam7 жыл бұрын
Interesting theory! Maybe the man we see is the father of the little who has died, so he ran away from his life, trying to find himself and make sense of life again crashing into a weird abandoned place... I guess we'll have to wait for more music to come to see if we hit the nail on the head!

this is so relatable that im speechless " i think you fucked me up...i think...i think you fucked me up, and i have nothing to say to you" that part speaks like bullets, hearing his voice crack up reminded me exactly of all the times i held on tight trying to tell myself to stay strong while my heart was breaking bit by bit, trying to hold onto an illusion of something that wasn't even real, its funny cuz i remember singing "wake up" every night and hearing her breath as she fell asleep telling me "I love you" . and now im here years later after all the pain ,heartbreak,trying to forget, moving on, getting stronger, growing up... and I listen to this and its hard to breath. its like this song just brought back so much even tho its my first time hearing it, its a weird dark type of nostalgia. it doesn't bring back memories, it brings back feelings, the ones i forgot i had, and just gosh, on this cold winter night overwhelmed with stress, and anxiety. and feeling so little , I hear this and its like a punch in the gut with warm hug after. it reminds me that no matter how painful something is how much it changes you and fucks you up, you will get through it and keep going. no matter how cold your heart gets, you're still you. You're still breathing and you're still alive.... thank you for this beautiful piece of art eden. you're definitely more than just my favorite artist, you're songs are a part of my life , i feel so much less alone with you're music, and im thankful to have that. - 12:20 am

I rarely comment or rate any video but man, your songs have quite literally saved my life, in every aspect. I tried to commit a couple times after I was told to go do it by my mom so I walked up the street one time a just cut 3 long lines from my palm to my elbow and I was bleeding out but I got scared and called the police, next thing I know 2 state troopers, 4 local police, 2 emt trucks and 1 ambulance were there in what seemed like 30 seconds but I know it was longer. While I was in the ambulance it was just the most numb I've ever been and at the time I wished I didn't call anyone, that I just died there but when I was in the ER and I had someone watching me at all hours because I was high risk I came to realize that people care, even if they don't know you they care and thats what I feel your music is about. I've always wanted to see him in concert but I don't have the money to travel and see him so that is only a dream, hopefully in years to come if you are still performing concerts I will be the first one there.

This was the last song my dad ever got to hear. After 2 months in a hospital this song made him smile through the pain and the reality he was facing. A year later and its still just as powerful to me. Thank you Jon for making my old man smile one last time. I really hope you find many pleasures in your music career and enjoy the time you have with the people around you. You are more than talented. Thank you.

Am I the only one who noticed that the crash and gold music videos are connected? At 0:53 you can see a picture of his family (the family from gold music video) and in the gold music video around 1:03 you see her hold up a blue sweater and smell it (the blue sweater the guy is wearing in this video). I’m probably wrong but both songs are what the other person is feeling at the moment. Sweater guy is still dreading over the fact that he’s not with his family and can’t move on. Orange hair lady has moved on for the most part and is getting rid of the guys things. Idk just a theory. There’s also the meteorite flare in the both videos which we’ll have to see what it is.

*Lyrics:* It's been a few years since you been gone There's been a few tears, but that was years and years ago Yeah, I grew up to be exactly what you wanted Yeah, I've been living out the dream that you dreamt up It's been a few years with more to come It's been a few years since I've felt sure of what I want And I woke up today and found that you were waiting here for me and I thought Woah, old friend, it's bittersweet But how could you do this to me? How could you do this to me? Yeah 'Cause you are not who you think you are There's no grain on these brown eyes But they can be green if they really want And I can bend your words So they say exactly what hurts the most But silence is better than fake laughs or faking we're always up Loose grip The world bends around you And living through cracked screens We fold down to what we want Out of love We talk through lines, we're made of smoke And just in time, we drift away Diffusing light, confusing times Growing up, or cascading down? Cascading down I'm hurting now But change comes slow If you hate what's in your head, the fuck would you speak your mind? In search of lost time Just 21, so I'm young and I'm stupid Only 16, yeah, I think you should've known I think you fucked me up I think, I think you fucked me up And I've got nothing to say to you It's been a few years and I moved on Couldn't make it disappear, oh I tried so hard to be strong But I grew up today and faced that I'm not just lonely Don't feel much better but I guess that it's a start

theory: this song is about EDEN achieving his goals of making it. Jon’s talking to himself, his younger self. He’s gotten everything that he wanted; he’s a artist that’s got loads of fans. But it’s bittersweet because what he had to do to achieve this was to sacrifice what music he actually liked and wanted to produce. He thought he liked what music he was producing, he tried to convince himself that everything he was doing was only growing pains. However, his world goes upside down; it crashes. Everything he’s built comes crashing down when he releases his new music. He’s got to change what he’s doing in order to be not only proud, but happy to continue creating music. Everything he started when he was a teen just making music in the basement, with people picking up on his music. Towards the end of the song, this is his perspective on where he is now. He wanted The Eden Project to disappear, he wanted to be a different, new person. He doesn’t feel better becoming EDEN, but it’s the start of what he truly wants to do.

There are two guesses to who the person he is singing about is. One: His emotions(most likely sadness). I say this because he says talks about it as an "Old Friend" and that it is bitter sweet. So it could be an emotion that is coming back to haunt him and that they made him who he is and fucked him up. Two: A parental figure. I say this kind of for the same reason for the last thought. Not only that, but parental figures are some of the most influential people in our lives, so they could have shaped him as well. And (to be honest), it sounds like he is talking more about a real person than him talking about a personified version of his emotions.

I think it could be his parent b/c some of the lines wouldn't make sense really if he was talking to himself and when I fisrt watches it I thought he was talking about his dad and Mabey he did stuff when he was little that caused him to hate his dad but then his dad got dementia and that's why he is "bittersweet"

James M and I remember the eden project days when he did dubstep stuff on Nocopyrightsounds(chasing ghosts). Then he slowly transitioned out of this with his last ep being Final Call as the eden project, this is when his style changed and name. I’m honestly glad he changed because that’s when I started to change and listen to other artists, but I always came back to eden. Try listening to Crywolf, he’s another great artist that I found through eden.

In gold and crash theres a shooting star the lady in gold leaves it be and doesnt care but this man does, he goes out and follows it, this indicates that they were in a relationship and the lady doesnt care anymore but the man does. And even more evidence of this is that they both have the same picture frame. Also its 1 kid 1 woman and 1 man, the kid isnt visibly a male or female could this mean its eden since he said "ive been looking for the stars but it seems that they're all gone" in start//end, idk.... This song was the mans perspective gold was the ladies and start//end was EDENS.

i see the connection. what if the woman is more of a realist and is 'imprisoned' and lacks hope, while this guy is more of a dreamer. he never moves from the chair when we exit the building. the aspect ratio and colour also changes with the transition through the window. i'm thinking it could be more of a dream than a reality as he ends up in the chair at the end again, showing (maybe) that he was only thinking about it. the ratio comes back also. adds a sense of imprisonment? dreams free him maybe.

Here we are, 5 years later on the exact date. Just like my comment from 3 years ago, this is still up there with my favorite song of all time alongside new songs from "No Future" and "ICYMI". Back then, I felt more sure of what I wanted and who I was, who were my real friends etc. Now as of this year, I feel like I'm lost, more anxious and questioning if said people still "care" about me, nonsense really because I know the answer. I don't know, it's just that things are different now, I'm older, people came and went, life has happened essentially. Months before this moment, I was really emotional and somewhat broken, a friend from last year came back then left again back in August. I was left questioning myself if I had done something wrong or did they just not want to be friends anymore, they meant a lot to me before so that's why I feel like I still care now but do they feel the same? They told me that they did, said they wouldn't leave etc. so what happened? But now, I think I'm in a better place, not so worried, I got a job back in October so that's kept my mind occupied, focusing on myself a little more and being with the friends that are close to me. It was like that for a while now but I'm glad that I feel like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Anyway, that was a lot of rambling, lol, I'm just here for the 5 year anniversary of this song, played it on repeat everyday til "Vertigo" came out. Thank you for this song, EDEN, much love to you and the community that you built! :)
