I was at her last scheduled standby show on August 22nd, 2004. I actually didn't know it was her last scheduled until a few weeks later. The first time I saw WICKED, initially wanted to see Idina. Of course, we get to the lobby before the show and find out that Idina was absent, and Eden was on. Lot of disappointment for those who wanted to see Idina. However, still excited to see the show. When she ran on in her first entrance, the audience still went WILD. I actually thought Idina was actually in, and she wanted to prank the audience. Once Eden opened her mouth and got through WIZARD AND I, we knew either way we were still in great hands and was in AWE of Eden's voice..... very Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston vibe that blew the rooftop off.... Of course, DEFYING GRAVITY, we loved her even more. 3 weeks after I saw WICKED, I get a CD sampler in the mail about this new musical called BROOKLYN which had Eden's photo in it. Listened to ONCE UPON A TIME and Instantly bought tickets!!! Eden is so amazing with everything and just saw the first preview of LEMPICKA on Tuesday..... this is her year!!! Her long overdue Tony nominee!! See?! Anything can happen when you're a standby, understudy, or a swing!!

Eden was the second Elphaba I saw after Idina in 2003 on Broadway. It was in August 2005, in San Francisco when she temporarily went on for SJB (who got injured in Toronto) during the 1NT. I liked her. She was good enough to where I dealt with the disappointment of not seeing SJB easily enough. I saw SJB a few years later in Pirate Queen on Broadway anyway. I saw Eden again in her LA sit-down production in 2008 and she was even better. Her battle cry ESPECIALLY had improved and become her "own" and she didn't have to mimic Idina and SJB's performances so much. And OF COURSE her ICONIC: "tell them how I...." delivery. I saw her one last time as Elphaba when she did the San Francisco sit-down production in 2010, and she was great as ALWAYS, but she did sound tired. She'd been doing Wicked a LONG TIME at that point.

Only saw Eden with Kendra Kassebaum twice and Megan Hilty once. Megan was my FAVORITE Glinda after Kristin Chenoweth. Kendra was ok, but I preferred Kristin and Megan's portrayals, both vocally and acting-wise. Katie seemed like she was good in the role, but I never got to see her live unfortunately. 😢
