Game Theory: Hong Kong was nuked in 2006, hence why the Hong Kong track never appeared after GT4, but in an attempt to restore the track and the population of the city, Kaz contracted Nacon who utilized an underdeveloped machine learning system that is only capable of producing taxis and mute NPCs incapable of reproduction (though they are still encouraged to make use of the Sex Chair, to no avail). This would also explain such A.I. anomalies as the 370Z having 3 pedals with an automatic shifter. Alongside the gravity disruptions on the highway, it's just another oddity in a nebulous sea of desperate procedural generation that leaves the island in a liminal state of what once was and may never be again.

TDU2 had it problems too, and this is a demo. There are bugs, but when you actually get to play the game it's actually quite nice and I think the core gameplay feels a lot like TDU. I agree that some of the menus and UI looks weirdly generic but if you look past that it's not bad at all. I'm actually excited to go back and play it again. People need to give this a chance and not let a couple of bugs ruin the whole thing. I know it's frustrating but again, it's not too bad in my opinion and I was very skeptical about this game being anything like TDU2.

Didn’t the crew close down after like a decade? I don’t see a problem for a game to close after 10 years when there are like 20 people at best still. And the Crew 1 is already getting a community made server so you’ll still be able to play it. Always online is going to be the new thing. Everyone has a constant connection unlike the old Xbox days. And these games last years, unless they completely flop, but if it flops then it was never good to start with.

This game has the UI of NFS Heat, the map of Sleeping Dogs but it's set during the COVID-19 pandemic (hence why there are only taxis everywhere since they're "essential workers"), the visuals of a PS3 racing game like Blur and a weird handling model that feels frustrating yet kinda enjoyable (then again, I like playing Most Wanted 2012 with a keyboard so maybe I just like weird handling models). The customisation parts having a "rarity" system like the kind in a freemium mobile game has me worried that this game might eventually have microtransactions. But most importantly, the always online aspect of the game is a MAJOR turnoff given the recent controversy with Ubisoft and The Crew 1.

I feel like a lot of people look back at TDU2 with rose colored glasses - not defending the obvious server issues here, but TDU2 was LOADED with bugs, server glitches and overall balance issues, I loved that game but it was definitely a flawed game, so I set my hype bar based on that and I wasn’t disappointed.

TDU 2 may have had a lot of bugs. But it had its own identity that made it unique. In TDU SC I just see a dull mishmash of all sorts of racing games with the odd dash of TDU thrown in. But not a real TDU...

I think that’s honestly more the result of how many recent racing games have tried to replicate the vibes of TDU in recent years, I do agree the hotel system should be dropped in favor of houses and more clothing stores etc. but in terms of core driving and gameplay I feel like TDU:SC nails the slow cruising and relaxing aspect that games like Forza haven’t been able to replicate. They’ve all tried to copy the island paradise vibes, character customization, houses, exploration and more of TDU but I feel like Solar Crown does a good job of making just cruising enjoyable, which is something I haven’t experienced with any recent games

Considering all the optimization issues, I haven’t been able to properly play this yet. Hopefully that will be fixed soon enough, but I’m also worried it will be a bit too limited and lacking in features as that’s what it looks like now; in fact, it now looks like vanilla NFS World in terms of features (and even then the latter had some more interesting modes/features). Then again, considering the good similarities to TDU 2 (FRIM, progression, etc.), it seems like they have their feelings in the right place, so I’m still interested to see what this will be at launch!

The only way i can express the feeling of the driving on this game: if Need For Speed Undercover joke physics and the 360 version of Forza Horizon 2 had a baby. The center of gravity of the cars feels..off,and with the weird suspension that might turn your car into a first gen Ford Explorer or a Mercedes A Class, turning at any speed.. it's a challenge on its own.

I'd say that was more of the case in TDU2 because of the story it had. All the characters in that game, apart from the mechanic in the used car lot, screamed " I'm a rich person with too much money on my hands.". In TDU1 meanwhile you didn't have much of a rags to riches story and were just a random person heading for Hawaii for some street racing fun.

Also considering the rarity on parts, paints, and cosmetic items for your avatar, I wouldn't be surprised if this always-online racing game gets a boatload of microtransactions on release. I personally don't see this selling all that well, I think its probably gonna put TDU in the ground for good. A shame too, we've lost too many good racing IPs over the years, Ridge Racer, Burnout, PGR, Midnight Club, Motorstorm, Driver, FlatOut, F-Zero, etc.

What are you talking about, when I get a new car on FH I don't feel anything, in fact I already know how it's going to handle just by looking at it. TD solar crown has a lot of great details like how the engine sounds in the top end in the lancia integrale due to the carburettors or how the 4WD system is mainly front wheel drive biased which makes it snappy at the initial turn but understeers afterwards... Sure it's rough around the edges but we should give this game the support that it deserves We already have 3 generic open world racing games,let's support a studio that is trying something more hard-core

This game is possibly the most poorly optimised game ive ever played. And i played cyberpunk at launch. This game barely ran on my gtx 1070 ON LOW 1080P settings WITH FSR TURNED TO PERFORMANCE (For reference cyberpunk 2077 runs at 1440p mid-high settings with quality fsr.)

run terrible for me too on a 4070 at 1080p ultra getting like 40 to 50 fps at times, i then tried my 6900 xt because i thought it was a vram issues nope about the same i know it's a demo just hope it's not a sign.

Honestly, outside of the tech issues, they have almost everything regarding what a test drive game is supposed to be about down close to perfectly, the races are fun, the free roam is honestly rich now with the fixed traffic (the patch that happened a few days ago). I don't like the always online aspect where you can't race without bots unless no one joins you, but the game itself is very much what i wanted from a modern Test Drive. The car selection is strong in the demo, despite it only being a small selection, and the fact that you can see all the cars you have together in the garage, and be able to interract in much greater detail than any racing game before it (blinkers, hazards, etc) is exactly why I think this game has a real shot at being the first overwhelmingly good racing game in years. They just need to get these tech issues resolved for the release, as they have the foundations & bones for a really really strong Test Drive game.

I'm just having fun exploring the map and trying to do silly hillclimbing with the starter Mustang. I can get the Mustang about 2/3rds of the way up Victoria Peak but I haven't quite managed to find a notch with a less sleep slope to get it all of the way to the summit. I still haven't tried the races and I'm not interested in multiplayer so I may not even bother with them. (I have other plans this coming weekend so I may not be able to play much during the final few days of the demo anyway.) The only clan I want to join is the "Leave Me Alone" clain.

I could SORTA understand why there aren't any pedestrians in the streets as the devs and publishers might be afraid they'll get in trouble due to gamers wanting to be gamers by running the pedestrians over because why not. Then again, there's other ways they could be implemented. For example, Midtown Madness 3, a now 21-year-old game, implemented pedestrians quite well by having them jump out of the way when the player's car tries to go at them. Even if you do "hit" them, your car will just phase through them, as if they aren't even there. If DICE can handle pedestrians quite well with MM3, then there is no excuse why KT Racing can't do so either with TDU:SC. That's just my 2 cents.

Funny how everyone here is bashing the game, while this is just a playtest cq beta, maybe late alpha release. This is not a demo. The word DEMO is poorly chosen by Nacon/KT. Back in my days, the mid/late 90s, early 00s (yes I am thát old), a demo meant a showcase for a finished game, not a alpha/beta (whether closed or open) version of the game. Too bad Nacon/KT decided to call this a 'demo'. A demo used to be available AFTER a game release. I really wonder why companies started calling a seemingly UNFINISHED game a demo. Hands up, this so called demo (playtest, I can't call it differently) is NOT depicting the ACTUAL game.
