wait so how do you know what type of integration to use? why parts instead of sub or why sub instead of reverse chain rule? more importantly will the exam tell you what to use?

Unfortunately us individuals have to figure out which integration method we have to use U substitution you can use when the question specifically says U= blah blah Parts I think we use when you see like x or lnx or e^x as a product
