When i read a novel i always try to look for a short movie of it, i found your movie after reading this great novel, this movie is so cool and i like the filters and the vibe of this short movie, this is great! Thanks and this is should be more popular

But ... but ... we were robbed of the climax! Very well done, but if you don't know the story, you will be disappointed by the end, which has been *omitted*!

First of all, thanks, glad you liked it. :) And yeah, I left the climax out (or rather just hinted at it in the beginning) because I found it more intriguing when you have to imagine what happened. Showing it would ruin the atmosphere of the story I believe, because when reading the original story you also have to imagine everything, and that's (at least for me) the main aspect that makes the story so creepy in the best way possible. Somehow exactly showing or telling that Valdemar dissolves in black liquid didn't feel right for me, I just thought it wouldn't fit the atmosphere of the movie as it would turn it into some kind of Cronenberg-esque bodyhorror. Also - but that just on a sidenote - I couldn't imagine any visual representation of the ending that would do the original story justice. Telling it this way without clearly showing what's going on in the end seemed like the right dramaturgical choice to me. That's pretty much the same reason why I didn't want the characters to talk, and instead have a voiceover of the hypnotist. Hearing Valdemar's voice when he's dead and fixating it to a specific sound couldn't come near Poe's detailled description of the voice and destroy the element of imagination - which is the main reason why I love the story and also the main element that makes it so disturbing as it is, in my opinion.

Emuvies Fair enough. We all have our own ideas. Were *I* to have been the Director/Editor (a fantasy of a different kind!) I would have omitted the scene right at the beginning, showing the goo dribbling off the bed onto the floor, and inserted something similar at the very end, with these differences: Firstly, it seems unrealistic, to me, that the people would stand and sit, motionless, whilst Valdemar underwent such an horrific change. Secondly, I thought there was too much goo, too quickly. Finally, I would have cut away, as you did at the end, but show the feet and the underside of the chair (as you did at the beginning) with the 3 people scattering, pretty damned quick, possibly overturning the chair. The final image might be a close-up of the counterpane and floor, onto which the goo is slowly dripping. Your way is excellent, but I do feel that, as I said, someone not knowing the story will not understand the first scene, would probably have forgotten it by the end, and is unlikely to put two and two together. Just a thought! Thanks again for this interesting interpretation.

You are right. This short is good, but anybody who "loves" Poe stories know very well that this tale has practically no value without its ending.
