Awesome work! A few questions: 1. How do you prevent the glue layer from interfering with slicking the edges? When I sand my edges the glue 'peeps up' from between the layers of leather and forms small glue spots. Maybe I'm using the wrong product. 2. Any experience with Tokonole colour finishes (black or brown)?
@TastyChocoCoco4 жыл бұрын
I have the exact 2 same questions. Please help us out!
@Krisszhu19904 жыл бұрын
I had the same in the past. Let the glue air before you put the two pieces together. I'm using water based glue, which is white, and its ready when the colour is gone. Since I'm not "rushing" the issue is gone. I hope this helps.
@spoonie3194 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if you’ll see this 4 months later, but I’d recommend picking up one of these adhesive erasers. They are great for the exact issue you are referring to, and also cleaning up any other areas where your glue lines might not be as clean as you’d like. Low Tide Leather gotcha thank you! Do you adjust your burnishing process depending on the type of leather you are working with? The natural veg tan I’ve been using gets water stains really easily so I am very cautious about using water to burnish!

Might it be normal to see itty-bitty bits of fuzz still sticking up here and there along a burnished edge (let's say more along the edges of the edge) or does that just mean it wasn't sanded (or polished?) down enough? Thanks.
@aphyngodiva25514 жыл бұрын
Not an expert here but sounds like an issue with sanding, saw another video that said that's really common with sanding and why he didn't recommend it, it's called threading (or at least that's what he called it). He doesn't recommend any sanding for this reason but clearly this person managed to do it without issue somehow. Finer grit probably threads less and good leather sources probably help too (Tandy is notorious for bad leather if you aren't already aware, good to practice on but tend to have a lot of issues).
@BlueToronto4 жыл бұрын
@@aphyngodiva2551 Hey thanks for the reply! Yeah, I actually saw a "CHARTERMADE" video yesterday where he also recommended not sanding and uses his knife instead, he called it fluff, lol. I also saw another video yesterday where they used a very fine sandpaper during the burnishing process and he recommended using worn-in spots on the paper which are even finer....his edge seemed to be very smooth and glassy. I think having flushly cut edges can help.
@BlueToronto4 жыл бұрын
@@aphyngodiva2551 Didn't consider the quality of the leather, it's not from Tandy, been using/learning with some no-name Belgian veg-tan I got at a workshop I attended. That leather seems fairly clean but I did recently get some "B-Grade" Perla Azzurra leather and it does seem to be a bit cleaner. Might have to pick up some of the 1000 grit paper used in this video and see how that does. While the paper I have does fluff or thread, it also does seem to clean up some of the fluff after I've already wet and burnished the edge somewhat.
