When I first started tutorials, mine were really no different to anyone else's... That's something I've tried hard to change recently, offering an angle that isn't as common elsewhere. I really appreciate it being noticed

One of the very few videos that approaches the “just can’t reach that spot on the mini with the side of my brush” reality. To me it is one of the most frustrating parts is the areas that are a challenge to reach with the side of the brush.

It's one of the absolute worst eventualities for me, as a painting teacher, to have to tell someone "the only way to tackle this problem is to get good at it." And that's exactly why I try to teach folks not to rely too heavily on edge highlighting.

@@TesseractMinis I totally agree but I see so many artist gravitate towards learning it sooner rather than later. There are so many things they need to get good at before this.

I don't think it hurts to be practicing it from day one... But it definitely shouldn't be a priority before you've learned how to blend, how to get flat finishes, how to use lustre, value and tone to create different contrasts, etc etc etc. It's way down low on the list of things to master first, for sure.

I don't think it's something that you need to _learn_ or master first, but good edge highlighting is dependent almost entirely on good brush control. And _that_ is absolutely and without a doubt the most essential and fundamental skill a painter needs to learn. So practicing edge highlighting not only improves that particular technique but also one of the basics.

Your O-12 is coming along nicely, glad REMs getting done. I made the mistake back in the day of not getting REMs early since I liked human models too much, big mistake :D

Making some really good progress with them yeah! Gonna pivot a little now and spend a few weeks on Ariadna, then I'll likely dip back to O-12 and finish what I've got.

I don't even paint miniatures, let alone play tabletop games. This just so happened to be in my recommended lists. I may actually try this stuff some day. 🤔

Personally, I found the best results with a Raphael 8408 in size 0 - it has a nice point but a long belly and has the right amount of snap to make sharp lines. I thin the paint with drying retarder to keep it flowing smoothly, so it doesn't dry out on the brush and also is easier to wipe away with a damp "oops" brush if there's a mistake. I go with the liquid type (such as Reaper) rather than the gel type (such as Vallejo). Brush pressure is also crucial to sharp and even lines. Most people who have trouble are pressing the brush against the surface rather than just gently trailing it along.
