Awesome video on your fixture design and your thoughts on how it should work. So good to see real world design and application at work. Please keep the videos coming . And thanks for your taking the time to make your videos.

First, thank you for taking the time to post the video. I recall seeing that your house was damaged during the recent flooding in Houston. I imagine getting the house cleaned up and repaired takes quite some time and effort. I'd have my hands full just taking care of that. Second, I wonder if the client specifies a nominal location of the casting. So the castings can be wobbly and crooked, maybe oversized in some places and undesized in others. I'm sure there are specifications outlining how the machined features relate to each other. Is there a specification to relate the features to the casting somehow?

I love what you do - it's real work - big work - out of curiosity would it be better for design purposes if you knew what the gizmo was going to be used for - viewers would be really interested what the parts are going to be used for - but brilliant work and a very sincere thanks for taking the time to post - you are obviously very busy with your business - thanks again.

I'm glad you like the glass coating. Looks like it's working really well, especially with the air blade. Am curious to see how it holds up to the coolant.

Try to come across words to say about your video. Amazing, incredible, and the other words I thought of, well they aren't good enough. Thank you for posting this video as you are sharing a lot of expertise. Your fixturing is very interesting as holding a sand casting with consistency, adjustment and no strain makes a challenge. The time it takes to make and edit the videos adds up. You must have time to do them during machine run time? Love the use of the probe, a real time saver, every CNC mill should have one. Your videos are great, thank you again.

Great video! Can I ask why your B axis appears to kick around 10 degrees every time the tombstone moves back to centre after a tool change?
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
+Seventy7 Industries I always approach the angle from the same direction of +10 degrees. This makes sure there is no backlash error. On small diameters this error is very little but at the longer distances of this bigger machine. From the center of rotation it can make a difference. My cam software puts this rotation automatically at all tool changes and B axis rotations.

Hey Peter, the second part of the video with the renishaw probe is that a mazak machine? Otherwise mazak machine come standard with build-in probing cycles. Even usable for manual probing. Seeking angles of your piece or positions of corners or holes, sloths or raised parts. (Dunno the correct english word for that last one)
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
All the videos on probing so far have been on the Mitsubishi horizontal mill. The Mazak does have the same probing cycles. Watch my next video it shows a feature to feature measurement. Should be posted in a few hours.

I'm going to pick up some of that FlyBy as well. Did you get the "30" or "Forte" kind?
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
+Hirudin the box says FlyBy Forte 15ml. It's expensive but it doesn't take much. www.carpro-us.com is where I got it.
@Hirudin7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I ordered some of that and I got some of the "30" variety as well, just for kicks. Another product I've bought is called "Fusso". It's quite expensive as well (3ml bottle for something like $30, if I remember right). It definitely has some hydrophobic/oleophobic effect, but I can't really quantify how effective it actually is.
@Iwincuzusuk27 жыл бұрын
I don't see anything called "30" on their website. They have a bunch of other ceramic coatings for paint so that might be what you are seeing.

"They have a bunch of other ceramic coatings for paint so that might be what you are seeing." Maybe I saw a speed limit sign that said "30" and got confused. www.carpro-us.com/protection/carpro-flyby30-windshield-coating-full-kit-20ml/

Love the videos! Do you send your programs over an run them on control, or use dnc? We're having program size problems with meldas
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
+Samuel Stone I try to make my programs fit in the control. My control has about 500K of. Memory. I have run DNC but have only needed to do so a very few times. If you are doing a lot of surfacing type programs I could see the need to run DNC. I will usually split the programs up into smaller sizes. There are devices you could install in the control that would allow you to run DNC without tying up your computer.

Figuring out the fixture and probing cycles for this, goes a long way with 50 parts. Would you even accept the job if it was only 5-10 parts? Or would you still accept but ultimately increase the price accordingly until the customer would agree to a larger quantity to lower it.
@EdgePrecision6 жыл бұрын
Yes the price would have to be increase for a smaller quantity. Sometimes you can get the customer to order a larger quantity for a per part cost savings. I have at times been able to charge separately for the fixturing, tooling and setup than have a fixed price on the parts.

Nice work! Out of curiosity how much time did you spend on the that CAD, it looks pretty complicated. :)
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
+Performance 3DP The finished part model was provided by the customer. I copied it and altered it to the casting's dimensions. The fixtures I modeled in cad. I would say juggling different ideas and modeling took me about a day including being interrupted by various things and people. Thanks!

What kind of bit in that NSK Grinder?
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
Its just a 1/8" diameter tapered carbide burr. The place I buy them from here in Houston, Texas. Bass Tool part #1-336-021 SM42 1/8 X 7/16 1/8S Mini Cone they call it. I don't know if those numbers are universal to other locations.

Is your hand held grinder air or electric?
@EdgePrecision7 жыл бұрын
+precisionforce 246 its electric. I prefer the electric ones you can vary the RPM to lower speed and still have plenty of toque. This one does from 0-50,000 RPM.

Why not weld som steel together for the fixture, the threads for the bolts would be stronger, if you go at it with 15 Kw you will need heigh forces to keep the casting in place.
