There something about Cambodia that keeps bringing me back there, I mean most people that is used to living life in the first world country would never go to such a place, I've been in and out of Cambodia every few years and I believe I like the culture and way of life (lifestyle) the way they do things so differently from here like not following road rules and opening up shops without permits, it's just those little things that give me a sense of freedom every time I visit there, also I am Cambodian.

Interesting travels! For future reference and for others coming to Cambodia, it IS possible to go directly from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh, either by boat or by arranging to join the Can Tho-PP bus en route. (It skirts Chau Doc but definitely possible. If it's too hard to arrange a pick-up point, alternatively you could get a local bus to Can Tho and just get on the PP bus at its start OR to Long Xuyen and pick up the bus at their food stop. Any way, it's shorter than going all the way to HCMC.)
@Edgesofearth6 жыл бұрын
- Interesting. I spoke with locals, they called the bus company and they said no. They said HCMC to PP only :/
@terryparnell5206 жыл бұрын
I make the trip by bus frequently and have for several years. To do the bus, you'd likely have to contact the office in Can Tho or PP to arrange, and you'd need a Vietnamese speaker to help you. The speedboat makes a nice trip, too. It's a bit more expensive but faster and definitely worth doing once if you get back this way. (You can book the speedboat online on several sites.) And for anyone who might need the bus info, here it is. Can Tho 107 Tran Hung Dao - Q. NK - 38C Nguyen Van Linh, P. HungLoi, Q. Ninh Kiey - TP. Can Tho Tel : 84 918 262 053 84 710 3832 203 Phnom Penh Bus Express & Travel (Cambodia) Co. Ltd #09 DEo, Street 230, Phsar Deumkor Commune Tuoi Kork District, Phnom Penh Tel : 00 855 972 119 339 - 099 790 443 The bus trip takes 7-8 hours from Can Tho (probably 5 from Chau Doc) costs 300k dong (on the Viet side) and $15 from the Khmer side. The ticket includes a meal and a bottle of water but the meal is always in Long Xuyen.

I always skip the herds of people for more authentic experiences. Kudos to you! Later when you reminisce, it's the people, the locals, and the off beat experiences you'll cherish. Rarely, do you see on KZbin the road less travel. It's mostly all for show / crapagram, just another photo snapshot for bragging rights. Keep on keeping on, maybe we'll meet on the road one day.

Edges Of Earth FYI that noodle dish you were eating is an old throw back classic Khmer dish. It was very popular during French colonization. It's made with fish that's been shredded and mix with krueng (national seasoning catch all curry like paste made of pounded galangal lemongrass garlic chillies) in coconut milk. Brings me back.

@ 16:00 you say “it was a pricier thing.” What was pricier? Boat ride, crocodile meal, something else? The crocodile meal was $5.50, what were the other prices that you paid while there? Were there other tourist there?
@Edgesofearth5 жыл бұрын
- The boat ride. It was about $25. this may not sound like a lot of money, but when you're travelling for years consistently without a job or a break, every little bit matters lol. in addition, this may have been a local price, I am not sure. the woman told me to wait behind on the motor bike so she could get the tickets and then bring them back. she returned to me and told me how much I needed to pay, and then I walked up and paid. she told me that if I walked up to the window with her and asked this price, then I may have had to pay a foreigner price. this was her method to securing a local price. this price was for the cost of the entire boat, and not per person.

@ur12cujo6 жыл бұрын
Edges Of Earth - I don’t think it’s considered e-begging, as long as your providing extra content and not phoning it it. Some people just set it up to get paid based on the videos they already produce, that’s where people get angry. But IRL twitch is the hottest thing going right now, check out ‘cjayride’, he’s a lot like you...
@Edgesofearth6 жыл бұрын
- Thought about twitch, also. But it would be a difficult thing to keep 4G constantly and always be live. With patreon, I am super far behind on videos already. I couldn't imagine making more content. Crazy. I thought about hosting live videos once or twice a month specifically for the patreon contributors. That would be doable. Or maybe a one on one for the largest contributer. Not sure. Just thoughts at this point lol Thanks for throwing ideas around :)
@ur12cujo6 жыл бұрын
Edges Of Earth - Good points, Twitch would get you the most bang for your buck, and not add to your workload too much. There are people out there streaming in Asia, so it’s doable. Awkwards_travel is another twitch channel, they just use a couple of android phones to stream. Best part of streaming, no editing!! ;)

Edges Of Earth the foods in cambodia aren’t carefully inspected in terms of hygiene. Compared to western hygiene, Cambodian hygiene standards are low. Since your immune system isn’t use to the unclean food, it will have problems digesting it. I advise you to be very careful on what you eat especially in Cambodia. Although there are places that are relatively clean.
@Edgesofearth6 жыл бұрын
- Yeah. I'm aware of this. However, this particular place was a restaurant that all of the boaters bring the tourists to. I assumed that since they had a slow, but constant, flow of tourists - the food would be of higher standard and there would be no issues. The presentation, as you can see from the video, was actually quite nice. But it apparently wasn't clean or fully cooked...or something. I have been living for a year in Vietnam, and I am around the same level of hygiene. Just barbaric at times. I can hardly understand how the people can think certain situations are hygienically, OK. But, they (I'm guessing) just don't understand. Oh well. Better luck next time, I suppose lol
