Nearly all Vietnamese people are very friendly and honest. Except in HCMC (Siagon). I've never been ripped off except in HCMC. Saying that, Vietnam is no different from other countries. Big cities and tourist areas are more expensive and there are more con artists. I've lived in Vietnam for 3 years and have nothing really bad to say.

Ouch. To leave after an entire year. I left via Tan Son Nhat airport on a sunny morning in late August 2019. I caught the bus there. When I saw ‘Tan Son Nhat’ on the roofline of the terminal for the first time, my stomach sank. It was over. In front of the terminal, past the car park, I could see there was a small green space of tropical flowering shrubs, and clumps of bamboo. I needed a moment alone, before being taken away, so I headed straight to it, this garden without a house, untamed but domestic. But when I got there, first there was one local man swinging barefoot in a hammock, in the bamboo, then another, then another, and when I got to the end of the little bamboo forest, and discovered yet another barefoot man swinging in hammock, (the fifth), I just fell to my knees beside this local man and wept quietly anyway. He couldn’t speak French or English and I couldn’t speak Vietnamese, but the warmth of his expression, and his complete lack of alarm, he was so understanding. Thank God I’m returning this New Year’s Eve, to Tan Son Nhat, and I’ll go straight to that little garden, because what would the alternative have been..? Those of you caught in the illusion of capitalistic endeavour, you may not understand. But artists, writers, musicians and poets, we know.

Hope the return flights weren't too bad. Last month when I arrived at the airport to leave Vietnam, I was told my flight was canceled due to a typhoon near Taiwan. I was rebooked on a different airline. When I was about to board they told me that I would miss my connection, and was rebooked on different airline connecting in Korea. I waited at the airport for more than 13 hours, had a layover in Korea for 6 hours, (was assigned a middle seat on the trans-Pacific flight), and got home after 37 hours! I still haven't looked through all my pics or videos and thinking I have a bit of reverse culture shock. Hope you adapt quickly being back in the US and have a strong loving community back home!

the title is misleading, I didn't hear any explanation of HAVING to leave, I watched this thinking you had a problem with the gov that we should be aware of.
@Edgesofearth6 жыл бұрын
- Definitely not misleading..it appears that you misinterpreted the title. I never said "I had to leave VN because of a government issue.", because, yes, that would have been misleading. I didn't say 'why'. You, for some reason, invented your own why. Not sure why 🤔
@poopymcfartass16406 жыл бұрын
I took it that way too.
@honestyrocksu6 жыл бұрын
@@Edgesofearth okay, I confess I'm overly concerned about the title because I click on a lot of BS and I have a "thing" about anything close to clickbait, but your video was fine, I watched it 2x, just not what I expected. The video wasn't about why or anything related to "having" to leave - only about traveling - the leaving seemed totally incidental ( which is cool) so, not complaining, but I still think it's mislabeled. LOL Nice videos man! I'll check out your channel for some more and thanks for replying.

As to converting VN currency and wiring it - The law is targeted at illicit/corrupt domestic VN money from turning into USD in the United States. China has the same exact rule - with mixed results. it slows, but does not stop the corrupted funds from turning into USD in America. An unfortunate example of honest people being inconvenienced by institutional corruption. .
