so as i was editing this video i realized i had the necessary cards sitting in my card box so i quickly threw it together (with a few other additions for my collection of course) and played a game with my patrons. here it is if you're interested in how the deck plays: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGOweKFua8uMmZY

While I do look for synchronicity in my decks, I always build with a "story" in mind. The cards have to feel like they could all be characters in a world. I'm still trying to make my Dune deck work. I got thopters, wurms, equipments like daggers and energy shields.

This deck made me think of Borborygmos Enraged... you could run him and like 19 cheap ramp spells with 80 basics... maybe $10 tops, could even splurge an extra $10 to add a Life From the Loam which is just insane with him.
@Not-The-PlanАй бұрын
Try praetor’s council might be a good fit.

I have a Borborygmos Enraged list. The list: Borborygmos Enraged Abundance Bloodbraid Elf Throes of Chaos Keen Sense Snake Umbra Storm Cauldron Is very silly.
@DigitalinDanielАй бұрын
@@NoctisVigil Hmm, I would ideally like to try and play Borborygmos by at least turn 4 without having to depend on Storm Cauldron... and I feel like Storm Cauldron would also just set him up to fail? You wait 8 turns to play him and return all your lands to hand on Cauldron, and he gets hit with Swords-etc... you just wait 3 more turns? :^( I do like the rest of your list**
@NoctisVigilАй бұрын
@DigitalinDaniel It's possible to ramp into him faster using lands. Myriad Landscape, Blighted Woodland, Terrain Generator, Horizon of Progress. These can get you extra lands out. There are also lands that tap for more than one mana. I chose Storm Cauldron as my ramp piece because it works double duty, both ramping me into the big guy and refilling my hand with fuel for him without getting in the way of my cascading. There are definitely other options.

4:50 Running mostly basic lands and throwing in cards like Winter Moon, Tsabo's web, Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, and for more spicy tech using Planar Nexus and running all Snow Covered Basics in mono-colored decks is always a good time.
@bobbyfartz5591Ай бұрын
There is a downside to being too little of a threat though-people just attack you. Attack triggers, damage triggers, people will attack you if you don’t have any blockers and if your plan is to discard lands enough to kill what comes at you, you’ll run out of lands real quick

My cheapest deck is Esior and Falthis voltron/bogles. There are a lot of good and cheap auras in magic that noone plays, because everyone fears getting 2 for 1ed. Esior does the attacking and is hard to remove and Falthis keeps people from attacking me. Auramancer's Guise and Thran Power Suit help finishing people off quickly and I draw a lot of cards with Curiosity like effects. Counterspells help me to keep my Bird on the board. Building the deck has cost me around 20€.

Yes and no, it obviously depends on your personal budget as the importance of $20 is relative to people's incomes and what not. I like to build decks as cheaply as I possibly can at first, and then build them out slowly but surely. I have 12 decks right now, another 6 about halfway done. if I want to add $5 cards to each one, I'm spending around $75. That is a lot and adds up quick, so yeah starting at around $20 - 30 is the most tenable.

Change of Fortune would be a GREAT draw in this deck: 1. It won't be caught by Plargg's ability. 2. If you'll be discarding into seismic assault, you'll just refill your hand equal to the number of cards you discarded this turn. 3. Even if it use it earlier, say you use Plargg's loot ability. You'll discard your hand and then draw PLUS one. Seems pretty decent. It is a one-time use, but it seems like a pretty good one here. I would personally add Molten Vortex here. It is a SIGNIFICANT downgrade to Seismic Assault, but it's always good to have a backup in a deck. You never know who will exile your Seismic Assault. You never know.

If anyone is interested in building inexpensive decks that can not just hold their own but actually beat expensive decks built by more enfranchised players, that’s what my entire channel is dedicated to. Just a few commander ideas for “budget pubstompers”; Magda Kinnan Yuriko Malcom Kediss Selvala Marwyn Minsc n Boo timeless hero. All of those decks have videos on my channel and if your sub $100 deck really is just too powerful for the money piles at the LGS it’s a lot easier to power down than up. Spoiler alert* these decks will be too powerful for the lgs money piles 🤷♂️ As you become more proficient you can cut key cards and add some “casual staples” instead of the real efficient stuff in these budget decks. Start at a 9 then season to taste😁 This video did well; kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXy7Znl9o8psp8Usi=AQN67G3NJ2rd3k5O

I like this idea and might put together an ultra budget version of it. However, I can see this being demoralizing for a new player to play in its most basic form. The likelihood of them waiting 5 turns to do anything while watching everyone else play magic would be rough. Not to mention having no blockers and the possibility to burn 5 mana to whiff and have to keep doing virtually nothing until you hit one of your impact pieces. I suppose you would hope to have a friend that could give you some pointers, like adding bounce lands, defensive creatures that can buy you some time, some sort of ramp to get to your game plan earlier, more ways to benefit from discarding, etc. In a deck like this, one mans trash is genuinely a new players treasure. Im sure your friends have a pile of bounce lands and slow rocks/dorks that are collecting dust.

I want to make a mono colored edh deck that has most of the common mechanics in the game, that's still somewhat competitive, and not that expensive to build. I built a Ruxa deck that had token generation, anthem effects, a couple planeswalkers, vanilla creatures, and tutors. It was around $300. A bit too expensive to be a "learner".

Seismic assault. Uh okay. How do you replenish your hand? You have 7 lands. That’s 14 damage. Then you have 2 damage each turn. You cannot win that way. That’s bad advice for a new player.

He’s not saying build this and head to the lgs. He’s talking specifically about playing with close friends who want to make your first game enjoyable enough that you decide to try it again. This is actually a brilliant template for getting started in that context and for developing a progressively more complex deck over time.
