So I did the math, and accounting for the fact that the Storm count was at 8 and not 7 when Empty the Warrens was cast, Jim went to combat with 1662 colorless mana floating in his mana pool. If I tracked post combat mana usage correctly, he then died with 419 colorless floating after restarting from 0. Mana Echoes is silly. I mapped it out in a google sheet because why not.

It would matter pretty big i think thanks to the target being rustic study either making people spend more mana or letting Jim draw more cards. Just my personal opinion that it is a big miss

@@EDHijinks And in the same turn, to cast it, you sacrificed two Treasures. That were two triggers on the Mayhem Devil, which means you could have killed the two Goblins Jim had at that point.

Mana echoes wasnt used right either. Each gobo sees each other enter, which triggers each time. So 2 gobos, would make 4 colorless

Definitely would have. And his rhystic should've still been alive. And eiligh only had 11 treasure yet she used six to cast that card then used 6 to ping Olivia but only took off 6

Even though they slightly corrected it, mana echoes does a lot more than just increasing. Since all of the goblins hit the battlefield at once, they will see each other. If you have no goblins on the battlefield and create 3 off of ovika, they will all see each other and make 9 mana. BUT, they are phyrexian goblins and Ovika is also phyrexian, so mana echoes will create 12 colorless off of that. Jim probably had several hundred if not thousand(s) of colorless floating if he could've pumped it into an x spell

Also they share Ovika type as well since they are phyrexian goblins. So should have been way more colorless mana than what was being tracked.

To clarify for anyone else, you don't check for each creature type for each creature. You check how many creatures share at least one creature type. If you had four total Goblins, three of which are Phyrexians, you'd add 5 mana when another Phyrexian Goblin enters. The scenario laid out in OP's comment results in 12 mana being generated rather than 9 or 21. Gatherer ruling as citation Mana Echoes counts the number of creatures that share a type, not how many types they share. For example, if a Human Warrior enters while you control two Humans and two other Human Warriors, you'll add five {C} to your mana pool.

@@Reach_WHe didn't say anything false. He was pointing out that the goblins Ovika made are Phyrexian Goblins and Ovika himself is Phyrexian. So whenever Ovika mades goblins, Mana Echoes will also count Ovika. So the first time he made 3 goblins on the empty board, he would indeed get 12 mana (3x (3 phyerxian goblins + 1 phyrexian nightmare) because each goblin created triggers Mana Echoes and sees all other goblins created at the same time. Edit: re-reading, he did make it sound like you got 9 + 12, so that part would be wrong.

I have a livio ikra shadiqui deck that is mainly based around blinking my creatures with a decent amount of token synergies and control with out taxing(like flesh bag maurader) . With a slight amount of life gain synergies that I love and I’m so happy someone is running either of those commanders I’m excited to see this episode:)

I really like the special rule, where Rhystic Study is destroyed by whatever destruction spell targets it, even if it would only destroy creatures. It ist a fine homebrew rule I would definitely like to get going on my game nights.

At 28:49, how is Jim doing 27 damage to each of you? Impact Tremors triggers and puts 1 damage to each opponent in the stack, then Fiery Emancipation and City on Fire trigger, Fiery triplicates that 1 damage, so it becomes 3 and then City on Fire triplicates those 3, so total damage should had been 9 not 27, unless I'm missing something.

Great game, just a bit confused at why sensei's divining top was coming every turn. You need to pay 1 to play it and 1 to activate it so it shouldn't have happened the way it did at least the first turn. Then I guess Olivia would have had mana to activate it but that step did not happen on camera either. Just a note so you guys don't do that mistake in the future. Also deathsprout can´t target rhystic study but I guess that was already mentioned below. Loved Jim playing as always.
