@@CardmarketMagicwhy on earth did you search for a Ball Lightning instead of a Lightning Skelemental when you had a swamp and no mountains in your hand??? You knew you weren't drawing a red source, you were drawing the elemental you just put at the top of your deck! Lightning Skelemental is even the better card! Also, why are you searching up an elemental to the top of your library before you have enough mana to cast that one or the one already in your hand? Wouldn't it be better to get a land to cast the first one and then search up another one after when you can cast it? And bring back the first one using the recursion in your hand in between? Doing that would also have let you already drawn the Terminate when you needed it during the third game

Wow, this was a very entertaining matchup to watch. The Lightning Skelemental deck would have had a more serious shot if it included a pair of feed the swarms in the sideboard. It's interesting because both the decks are doing a sort of catch all strategy where their gameplan's aren't necessarily based on countering any meta, but instead delving deeply into a niche archetype. That first game could also have been won by Jamin's Tempered Steel deck, there was a way. Had Jamin just played Canonist with 2 of his four mana and then countered one of Carl's spells with the remand he could have blocked 3 of the 6 damage and survived with literally 1 hp. It seems to me that the Tempered Steel deck has a more fleshed out removal package than the skelemental deck, but it definitely has huge promise.

It needs more cards though to work compared to gitaxias, erayo + chimeric + repeal is already 3 cards. 15:10 I think Undying Malice is to keep and buff your Thunderkin Awakener. Buffing it seems kind of unnecessary though, unless you intend to revive a second one to trigger as well.
@lomenado Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not really necessary to waste an extra card on the Awakener, who doesn't need the toughness pump to do its thing and who really only needs to do its trick the turn it comes down (if it stays alive for a second turn, the game was probably a curbstomp in your favor to begin with). IMO it's more likely that the deck creator misunderstood the wording on Ball Lightning's ability, thinking that "at the beginning of the end step" only meant its controller's end step instead of every end step, which is how the card actually works (and how it's always worked since debuting in The Dark). There were a few since-deleted comments here where others made the same mistake, so to me it's a more plausible explanation than the card being maindecked to be a rather suboptimal support piece for another support piece (the Thunderkin Awakener).

I once had a deck with a similar gameplan to the Ball Lightning deck.. only it went T1 land+Deathrite Shaman, T2 Lotus Cobra, fetch land, Sneak Attack, Sneak in Worldspine Wurm, attack for 15, Wurm sacrifices eot, leaves three 5/5's behind. Turn 4 usually saw a removal spell/Bloodbraid Elf cascading into something like Signal The Clans for another Worldspine Wurm/other big creature, swing for 30+ damage with all attackers into their 5 life total.

The deck containing LIGHTNIIIIING SKELEMENTALL!! needs some way to deal with enchantments apparently. Feed the Swarm comes to mind.

I was really rooting for ball lightning, Erayo is one of my least favourite cards in magic and made me instantly not want that deck to win, plus how can you not be hyped about LIGHTNNIIINNNGG SKELEMENTAL

That Ball Lightning deck was sweet!

The funny thing about game three is that if Karl didn't mulligan (which was a reasonable call to do so) he would have just been able to Lightening Bolt the Erayo when it hit the field and he might not have lost. Which is truly a tragedy, because Oops all Balls is, of course, a baller deck.

Why does the opening remind me of every enemies to lovers fanfic? But the other way around😂

Small note... On the first game Jamin discards ethersworn canonist to lightning skelemtal however it isn't removed from the (Hand interface)

Awww, the turn 2 flipped Erayos made the games less fun than I had hoped. Turn 1 probably would have ended sooner if Karl had searched for the Lightning skelemental instead of the Ball lightning because he actually had the mana for it (and not for the Ball). But it looked as if it was the bottom card of the library and it was the deck archetype card, so he probably didn't think it over too much and went for that card straight away.

It's always amusing to see some interactions that are normally not seen with the game.

"4 spells, I dont think I can ever flip this." Flips it in the 2 following games.

Sadly, had to cheat to get it. Can't target a 0/0 because state based effects happen before priority or anything that can be placed on the stack.
