44:45 Among other things, Protection specifically prevents damage. Questing Beast gets around this. Try this the next time your opponent smugly reminds you they "played The One Ring and have protection from everything" when you attack: Confirm they're not blocking and then use Chord of Calling (or Aether Vial, etc.) to drop Questing Beast on the battlefield when they pass priority during the Declare Blockers step. It's a "Gotcha" moment. You're not likely to endear yourself to that player. If they've been behaving poorly that game, though, it can be really satisfying.

I always recite aloud, “ Untap, upkeep, draw,” on each of my turns to help me remember triggers. I also keep a coin in any deck box where the deck runs Howling Mine, Phyrexian Arena, etc. to place on top of my library when those cards are in play.

Infinitokens are great. Someone had 5 artifacts and auras on their commander. The best way to keep track of the power & toughness was to do the math on an infinitoken and update it every turn.

You can also use them to remind you of other actions you can take, like they mentioned retrace in the video. Kind of like Arena makes the actions you can take a part of your "hand", you can put a reminder infinitoken into your hand.

A card that I've used that has bamboozled my opponents is Leonine Shikari plus various equipment like Lightning Greaves and Basilisk Collar. It doesn't always grok with people that these effectively gives the whole team Shroud or Deathtouch, respectively. People aren't used to equipment freely moving between creatures.

I had a great little bamboozle moment earlier on Arena. I was playing the new Disa Lhurgoyf commander with Maskwood Nexus on the board. I went to cast Mindwrack Demon, when my opponent counters it with Lofty Denial. Neither of us realized that, thanks to Disa's ability, countering my creature spells didn't matter because I would still get them back, since it was put into the graveyard from somewhere other than the battlefield. I cackled when her ability triggered unexpectedly 😆.

Questing Beast is the classic example, but I think the New Thalia and the Gitrog Monster is up there. It's abilities just keep going. I have a deck with them as the commander and I still forget to either sac and draw or that everyone else's stuff enters tapped, specifically their non basic land

I just builded mine! I feel like it's a Rhystic Study deck because I have to remind every players, every turns about tapped stuff and other stax going on... However that worth it just to see the look on their faces! About sacking i'm never forgetting because the deck is heavily builded around Crucible, bloodghast and Scute swarm and i love drawing cards!

I count on my hand for each spell that is casted for my day night cycle. I also am forced to pay attention more to who cast the spells cause the old werewolves dont work with the day night the same way.

For a few things I'll have like a set of counters to put out as effects happen. Cards drawn for Flip Heliod and such. Or to catch 2nd card cast, but it is fiddly work. Often play a deck without such book keeping the following game. (I don't build nearly enough such decks...)

I do not understand why people don't just put the tokens their decks make into the deck box with the deck. It's never a surprise that you'll make something, so come prepared players!

Yep this is one of my biggest annoyance, be responsible have your token, especially if you are using stuff like Beast Within you destroyed my thing have the token to hand to me to use. There is plenty of space in a deck box.

I am a fanatic about having all the tokens I need for a deck, and it drives me nuts when people inadequately represent their tokens. "Oh this D6 is actually three 4/4 flyers that you just attacked into. And these pieces of lint are treasure tokens that I can use for my counter spell." Infinitokens are fine, but I prefer official tokens for my decks.

As a Kros player, I can actually speak to Tolerian Contempt. The problem isn’t that it’s overlooked, it’s that it isn’t worth the mana cost. In my deck, there are only 4 cards that are 5+ mana cost. 2 are boardwipes, 1 is a massive recursion lifelinker, and the last is a flyer that searches a finisher and lets me control combat without my commander. Tolarian Contempt just can’t do what the others are doing, and what it can do, other spells are doing for less.

It's so slow. 5cmc to bounce a single thing on your endstep is painfully slow. It's also completely useless if there's nothing with rejection counters on it (if, for example, someone decides to boardwipe). Why run this, when even something like Heidar Rimewind Master or Alexi Zephyr Mage could do the job better?

I have a Laelia deck, with does a LOT of impulse draw, and I just have a few Infinitokens marked "End of this turn", "End of next turn", "Foretell", and "Other", so I can keep track of impulse draw, foretold cards, and other stuff (including Brazen Cannonade, but also things like Rebound and Squee, the Immortal). Lots of stuff going on in an exile deck

My playgroup has repeatedly assumed Eowyn, Shieldmaiden has flying because the art shows her mid-leap. I always remind them if it comes up, but sometimes they just silently avoid attacking me with their fliers. I also don't think it helps that by the time you finish reading her second ability, all you remember is that her keyword started with "F" lol.

I run a Shadowheart and Noble Heritage Deck, and I have a little token card i give to opponents to help remind them of what the protection does, and also to remind me of who has taken my deals.

People forget that protection is damage prevention right up until the moment you remind them by ending prevention and rolling right through their one ring.

If I have cards that tend to be forgotten (like opponent's second draw) I have a spot where it's most visible for me on the battlefield and always put those cards there. That way, whenever I can I check that spot with the "do I forget something?" Thought. For "skip your draw" simply put it on the deck

One of the game hacks I use is with the blue tutor card future plans is I turn the card third from the top that I tutored for 90 degrees to remember where it is as well as reminding me not to use any shuffle the deck effects before I get to the card. It makes it a whole lot easier to parse.

Infijitokens are The Thing for reminders. I hand them to others when they have unusual stuff going on and I write my own when there’s something strange. My daughters use post-it notes the same way :)

I use art version of a wizard, warrior, rogue and cleric to keep track of m'y advancement in my Party deck. It also somewhat tells a story at the same time.

Bloodchief Ascension is very bamboozling. Takes at least 3 turns to activate with quest counters. Once "on" any card going to the graveyard for any reason triggers it: mill, discard, destruction, casting, etc. Then the ability is loss of life and life gain. Super easy to forget quest triggers since you only check at the end of turn. Once on, it feels like it should be easy to remember that any time a card goes to the graveyard you get a trigger but I frequently forget that cast instants and sorceries should give me a trigger because they go to the GY as they resolve.

I've never seen a creature break people's brains so thoroughly as Angel of Destiny. Bonus points if you give your team lifelink with True Conviction or an Odric or something so the math happens twice!

Kros defense contractor mentioned!!!!! Ive been using this commander for awhile and it shocks people. Do not consider tolerian contempt though, it is such a high cmc for a once per turn effect. I've used it and never liked it.

How I help people remember the Noble Heritage, Orzhov Advokist, and Agitator Ant triggers in my Anim Pakal deck is that I give them one of my dice. I have these bright neon-green dice and I ask them to use that dice for my triggers to remember which counters are their's and which came from them taking the deal from my cards.

Between the MoM and Dr Who precons, I have a handful of Planar dice. I use them whenever I need a quick one or two turn reminder on something instead of a D6 so I don't mistake it for a +1/+1. If I goad something, it gets a planar die with chaos face up, as an example.

Nobody in the comments talking about Conquerer's Flail, so it's up to me. It's the absolute most heinous of the "can't cast on my turn" cards because it's never going to be in a place that it can be easily referenced when it would actually matter. The effect is only on if it's equipped to something, which usually leads it being under another creature, so you can't see the rules text, or it being buried in an Equipment/Aura pile. I actually completely lost a game that I had on lock because I wasn't aware of what it did and let it resolve, which rendered my entire gameplan useless (U/W Heliod). So, no, I will never forget about the Flail now, and nobody else should.

A weird card I found a while back that fits this is Oracle en-vec. It is a 2 mana white 1/1 that taps only on YOUR turn and forces an opponent to choose what creatures they do and don't attack with on THEIR turn. But if they somehow didn't attack they are destroyed at end of their turn. So you might be able to a sort of Settle the wreckage if you have an instant speed effect that stops your opponent from attacking. Very weird confusing card. On a different but vaguely similar note, I feel like Stand or Fall was an attempt at making a "fixed" version of raging river, because it accomplishes a similar task while benefiting the controller of the enchantment more and being much less confusing. Fight or Flight is a mirrored version of Stand or Fall, but more pillowfort than it is aggresive. All weird cards that change game dynamics in weird ways.

Not that you all have time to talk about everything, but two Bamboozles that I still find to this day are Lands like Nimbus Maze and River of Tears and what color mana they make. What Dana said about cards having characteristics based on the art, cards having REACH but having the word oddly placed in the text box.

I myself play The Second Breen / Xena, Warrior Princess (2. Doctor/Leela) and I make sure people won't forget the deal. But most times people taking the deal did'nt have the intention to attack you anyway. Also....Leela, Sevateem Warrior tends to get really big really fast...

So, Zurzoth, Chaos Rider - The Mono-Red draw/discard Devil is a card that reads in a way which can cause people to get confused about his effect. I had to read and re-read him a few times when he was released; now he is one of my favorite commanders. Sometimes I have to explain his first effect to players that are newer to the game.

One card that always trips me up is actually xenagos god of revels, I play this deck a LOT and I STILL think it gives trample from time to time, same goes for devotion in general where I often tend to forget to count my devotion for those gods, or for Gary, or anything devotion related as it slips my mind.

One of my bamboozling cards is Urabrask, Heretic Praetor. It doesn't matter if it's mine, or someone else's... I always forget to exile instead of a regular draw. Then, I remember to, on the turn he's removed. 😂

I think the Propaganda and Ghostly Prison effects really throw people off because they have these huge turns and spend their mana playing their Craterhoof just for you to say "are you gonna pay the two mana each?" I have recently been playing Arena and I get this a lot with Archangel of Tithes where someone will cast 4 spells, get their Slickshot Showoff to 11 power and then concede because they can't attack.

Questing Beast is always a bit of a weird one to me, because it seems easy to remember to me. 3 keywords and 3 sentences. I tend to forget to apply the damage to planeswalkers, though, despite remembering it's there. ...and honestly, you'd think by now "can't be blocked by creatures with power 2 or less" would be a keyword in itself.

Dead ringers is just destroy 2 creatures that are exactly the same colour(s)? Unless i missed something it looks pretty straight forward. Chains of mephistopheles is my go to for confusing cards. We've started using a mistake counter for our cedh games to help people notice they are missing triggers and such, makes you a lot more aware of your game rule violations.

when i play with Solitary Confinement, i tend to forget to actually skip my draw step and discard a card on upkeep, which has probably unfairly skewed games in my favor just a bit. I also tend to forget it gives me shroud because not that many cards actually target players

Concerning global card effects, I had this happen to me when I cast Helm of Awakening which reduces spell costs by one generic mana. It completely slipped my mind that it actually affects everyone at the table and not just me, so it ended up being that one of my opponents got to get their combo going one turn early. I'm cutting the card from my deck in favour of something else.

Similar to the story about Dragonlord Dromoka, I used to run Obeka or Sundial of the Infinite effects, and it is funny to see someone trying make a big instant speed play at my end step. I’d ask them multiple times : “ are you REALLY sure you want to do that?”😂

I'm not a smart player. I ask about and read cards in between players steps all the time. And when analyzing the board state of other players. I tend to mentally tune out more different played cards. I end up just targeting the complex cards cause it's challenging to keep remembering it lol. Basic player patterns.

I've used dry erase markers on my dragon shields sleeves before, and it left some marks. It kind of melted the plastic a lil bit. Wouldn't recommend. Is it not the case with katana sleeves?

Melee (ice age) is actually better. Basically the same thing at instant speed that you can only cast during attack declarations. Sure some people would say the downside of removing unblocked creatures from combat is a big no go but that can actually work in your favor by leaving blockers and sniping things off the board that are a problem, and it keeps things only in your favor and not letting everyone choose who blocks what when they attack
