Ed I recommend spending time on pinpointing skills to reduce target recovery time. I see many using new, powerful handheld pinpointers with features that are largely misunderstood and seldom used. Sensitivity for example, is usually adjustable and most seem to run wide open all the time. When you see someone struggle to recover a target in a hole, they’re usually using their pinpointer on high sensitivity and get numerous signals around the hole. It takes a split second to bump the sensitivity down and you can do it without removing the probe from the hole. Reducing sensitivity will allow you to find the target faster with smaller holes. Rule of thumb: the closer you get to the target, the lower the sensitivity should be to precisely locate it.

Absolutely love this!!! The pullback method we use to identify a bottlecap can also be used for the pulltab.. while running a side to side motion, pull back. If you notice a slight change in sound, it’s most likely a pulltab. Rings with stones are really jumpy from a 7-12/13 so make sure you follow JD’s last tip of turning the “All-Metal Mode” on!! If you are ever unsure about a target, DIG IT!! If you are new to this amazing machine. #equinox600 #equinox800 . Run 5 tones and dig everything!! Then, turn on 50 tones and start to notice the slight nuances of sound!! Great video brother!!! I’m Vermontderek!

Good video Ed. As you can see I'm a new post within the last 6 months from your last post on this thread, meaning that this is a good archive information video for people who just purchased the Equinox. Still getting use to the shifting VDI's on this machine, and pretty much dig all good signals if you want to find gold. Used the AT Pro for three years with success in plenty of coin and silver with solid VDI's on targets but no gold. Bought the 800 because the PRO was horrible on salt water and black sand and already found gold twice on my first two hunts in a park...Luck? Maybe, but it already paid for the machine. :-) Thank again for the good video.

Dude you are such a great teacher how you explain. I saw a video from derek in FL. Where he was detecting near some metal beach chairs and he paused how to discriminate the beach chairs and was able to detect without the detector picking up the chairs. I think he detected the chairs first to see what number it came in as then made adjustments so it wouldn't pick up the chairs. Do you have a video like that? You earned a new sub.

I had no idea they were different in how the multi frequencies were geared. Great Video and I see I need to sit down and read a little more about my 800. Thanks for the video. Most of my gold rings with the Nox 800 all were 9's and dead solid in the ground. I spend most of my time hunting the 9 to 13 range. In my air testing of over 20 rings, 10k, 14k, 18k, mens, womens, small, medium, large, the full range is 7 to 16. I setup the machine Park 2 for 5 tones, then adjust the Advance Accept\Reject zones as follows. Z1 (iron) I run up to 8, Z2 9-13, Z3 14-21, Z4 22-30, Z5 31-up. Then in advance sound I turn Z1, Z3 down to zero. So you don't cancel out a notch, you just don't hear it while letting the detector do its job fully. This avoids all the noisy trash tones and you can focus on good target ranges. Yes, I know and accept I will miss some things but the time I save not digging trash more than makes up for it. I also refuse to dig zinc pennies (Z3 range) that are all janky, banks won't take them. Essentially I hunt gold, nickels and copper pennies and up. This a very effective means to hunt a park in my opinion.
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! Nice settings and strategy! A lot of people don't realize how difficult it is to hunt parks for gold jewelry .. however I can see you have a very good understanding of what it takes to be successful. Your basically narrowing down the odds to your favor by concentrating on your Z2.. that is a very effective method in Urban Gold Mining! You are missing some large gold however the majority of gold rings found in parks are going to be small to medium so you are definitely saving a lot of time by eliminating 14-21... because your right .. zincs can become very frustrating and overwhelming! Keep me updated on your finds! Send me pics of your finds this year to edhuffman@treasuremtndetectors.com
@haus65655 жыл бұрын
@@edhuffmanmetaldetecting I forgot to mention previously, I also adjust the tone in the Z2 9-13 up to a 21. Slightly lower than Z4 and Z5 where are 25. In a sense you stop on a high tone but have that slight variation. That is nothing more than a mind set for me.

ED, I had no idea that the orange Garrett carrot 🥕 pin pointer can be BALLANCED. When I bought it, it never mentioned anything about balancing it but I'll go back and reread the information on it."You learn something new everyday".

Thank you for the comment! Yes.... any pinpointer can be ground balanced... probably not in the manual but it can be balanced!

I was recommended to get the 600 as an entry level detector. Considering the 800. So I’m hoping others can advise and how to learn to decipher information?

Love these kind of videos. Can’t wait for advanced tips. Here’s a question...why is it that sometimes when you have a solid hit, you dig hole, the signal disappears?
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! Its called falsing... usually caused by high mineralization or you could be getting some hot rocks.
@jerrycox20585 жыл бұрын
sometimes you have pulled it out and it has flipped out to the side somewhere or can be stuck to the digger
@gregorydobson43074 жыл бұрын
Hi from the U.K, I get this a lot and its when you dig a hole and the item falls out of the side wall and into the bottom of the hole. The nox doesn't see it until you get it onto the surface for some reason.

Ed, love your work on these videos. I have a question no one can answer for me ..... since you can run the iron sound down so low with the Equinox, why not just search with the horseshoe button on in all iron, instead of just checking with it? I would think hearing all the iron in the ground would be a bonus. Thanks in advance Ed.
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting3 жыл бұрын
Yes... that is exactly the way I hunt... I run 50 tones with the all metal activated at all times... you can really pick out those solid tones that way!
@jaystrongbow94353 жыл бұрын
@@edhuffmanmetaldetecting Thanks Ed, I think the Equinox is also accurate calling iron and only gets fooled once in awhile by a curly 200 year old square nail or one with a big head. Generally it calls iron accurately so I run all metal too. I hunt colonial sites with heavy square nails and the Equinox has been a game changer for me in New England. Thanks again Ed !!

I have buyers remorse on some of my detectors, but not on the Equinox 600. Yes the shaft is flimsy (Detect-Ed solves that problem), yes the arm cuff seems like it is about to fall off, but I still love it. I love Field 2 mode. I hope in the future the price of the 6 inch coil comes down. $180 is too much. I thought FE and F2 were mutually exclusive (page 52 of the revised user manual)? Hopefully you can do an advanced one on the Equinox and focus on relic hunting in old iron. Thanks Ed!
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! Yes I agree with you! When you say mutually exclusive ... do you mean exclusive to the Equinox 600 or 800 or are you saying FE and F2 act the same? I will try to do the video in extreme iron soon!
@nickhaas24075 жыл бұрын
@@edhuffmanmetaldetecting If you look at page 52, it says: "The Iron Bias FE and Iron Bias F2 settings profiles are independent. When Iron Bias FE is selected, the iron Bias F2 setting has no effect, and vice versa".
@IffySignals5 жыл бұрын
Correct Nick/Ed, if your in F2 your only using the values in F2. FE and F2 are completely separate. Its an additional Iron Bias. So when Ed put FE 2 and F2 2 and backed out it was only using F2 2. Whatever mode you are in when you back out is the mode you are using. Take care.
