If anyone is in doubt, I’d like to say that is truly a successful hunt. Trashy sites are challenging and for me can be fun. But I’ll admit. It is nice to find untouched old sites. The coil tip is one of the best tips. Probably the best for for trash. Thanks Ed.

Thank you for the comment! I was pretty pleased with the Buffalo... because I know for sure that coin has been there at least the last 50-60 years so it has been missed by a lot of Detectorists! Yes the small coil is one of the easiest fixes for those trashy areas! More Videos Coming Soon!

Great info Ed! I'm an Equinox 800 owner and actually enjoy trashy sites. The biggest reason is that most detectorists would get frustrated and leave. But the Equinox, once familiar with it, can be a huge game Changer

Some very good advice, you will be successful if you go slow with a small coil, turn down sensitivity a little. Go when soil is dry and have a detector that has very fast recovery like the Equinox. You said it all to be Successful. I have the Equinox 600 and have gone back where I had hunted with 3 other high dollar detectors. I thought the place was cleaned out, but found over 25 coins in an area of 30 feet x 75 feet with the Equinox 600. This area is loaded with square nails.

I have a local site like that . every man and his dog has been over it with all kinds of detectors including me with the equinox 800 11 inch .I went there with the 6 inch and recovery speed at 7.I pulled another 7 silvers and 8 coppers from the site and I was also getting iron in the same holes. The six inch coil on the Equinox is a killer combination.

First let me say I agree with what you are saying about using a smaller coil to better focus on targets. Having said that let me say that I am one of those Treasure Hunters (TH'ers) that does not care what items are being found. I dig every target! The reason that I dig all targets is to clear any given area of everything thus allowing me to dig more good items by also finding more targets. I do recycle all my scrap metals for cash, and also remove all glass and plastic items to make the property owner happier. By cleaning the search area of everything the property owner is much more likely willing to allow me to return for additional TH's. Now I do understand there are times that you do not want to dig 500 holes like when you are in someone's nice yard. On the other hand if you are searching a corn field the farmer is more likely going to be happy that you are assisting in turning the soil over for them. I also make it a habit to bury leaves, sticks, corn stalks, etc in the holes that I dig. I know that many TH'ers also refuse to dig bottle caps, pull tabs targets, iron targets, one-way, or iffy targets. I have found that many of these targets (in Civil War sites anyway) are going to be keeper items. Skipping iron targets may speed you to find coins but missing a flat button because it comes up as a cent/dime is not the brightest idea. I have done group searches in Sacramento, California where 'Penny' (Cent) targets are ignored. I in turn have dug these targets and found Indian Head Cents, Early Wheat Cents, and lots of flat buttons. You have to consider what might be in your search area. Is the site an old home site? Was there Religious Meetings on the site? Was there a Military encampment there? How about older houses that are now gone? The more likely that the site has been in use over a longer time period the more likely there will be older good items there. Great video and a good starting point for consideration. ;-)

Thank you for the comment! I like to run Park 1 because if its lower frequencies being optimal for highly conductive metals like silver, copper, brass, etc... Run 50 tones, sensitivity around 20-22, recovery speed 4-5, F2 at 0-1 and I like to have the all metal (horseshoe button) activated because it makes the solid repeatable tones a lot more distinguishable! Keep me updated on what you find!

Extremely informative video Thanks! I do have a question though if you don’t mind. Reading the comments and replies, I saw where you recommended to one fellow to run the 6 inch coil at max recovery speed, iron bias 0 and 50 tones. My question is does the 50 tones you recommended help with target ID? Please explain the reason for the 50 tone recommendation so I can better my hunt? Thank you in advance. I initially ran 50 tones when I first got my 800. I soon chose the 5 tone option because the 50 was confusing me, but if I need to go back to that, I am willing. Thanks for your work on these videos. They are extremely helpful to us.

if you dont have a small coil you can "detune" your larger coil by lowering the sensitivity so it doesn't penetrate into the ground so far. not near as good as a small coil,but it helps in a pinch

@edhuffmanmetaldetecting4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! I had the threshold on 10 just for personal preference... sometimes the more noise I can generate its easier for me to distinguish those solid repeatable tones... kinda makes them pop out!
@B3DPrinting4 жыл бұрын
@@edhuffmanmetaldetecting ok, i used to listen for threshold to go mute on my old whites dfx, which told me when i went over iron that was descriminated out, or if i went over a target that was just out of range of fully hitting. I didnt know if it was something like that.

Opinion: I have a late 1700’s in Louisiana, but a guy with a Etrac had I buy himself for 10 years. I saw his finds that where incredible. Lots on iron tons but the 800 has sniffed out 1/2 reale, and half Capped dime which he said he’d never found. The 800 hit small targets well. Also got a Louisiana Pelican Coat Button which was incredible. But in the last 10 hunts I’ve gotten nothing. It’s plenty of land would you recommend the big coil? Lots of iron lots of modern trash. I need advice 🙏🏻

Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! Gold is coming Soon! Lets go deeper into the bag of tricks... try the method that I mentioned before and after that do the opposite... slow your reactivity/speed down to 1 or 2 ... select park 1 mode ... crank sens up to 23-24 .. swing with a 3 to 4 second sweep speed... Iron Bias 0 ... 50 tones... this will amplify any good targets mixed in all the trash that the other methods missed. Keep me updated!

Why did you say in extreme trash sites lower your sensitivity down to about half way and then you choose to have yours on 5 tones wide open?
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the comment and I appreciate the support! When running high sensitivity in extremely trashy areas you are amplifying all of the trash targets surrounding the good targets which results in masking and will cause you to miss the good target. The 5 tones is basically preference for me however 50 tones will work just as good especially if your trying to pick the high conductors out of the trash! Running wide open will also eliminate the chances of masking caused by running discrimination. If you want to talk more in detail please feel free to contact me anytime!

I'm curious, how deep was the nickel?
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! The nickel was only about 5-6 inches deep... it was being masked by iron. The key is to remove as much of the big iron and nails. If you notice when you lay a big piece of iron down and put a good target right beside it and try to swing over it the iron will mask the good target...like its not even there. I would say there is some really deep targets in that area but there is just so many nails preventing me from getting any kind of real depth.

Great video but here is my dilemma. I rushed to buy the 800 even though my trusty CTX was doing just fine. I am a young 62 year old gal that CAN swing the 3030 for hours but figured I could preserve my arm with the 800. Boy have I been disappointed. I am still trying to figure out the big hype. I hunt in high iron ares, old mining towns, old military dumpsites, old homesteads and no matter what settings I have tried I have a pouch of tin, nails and crap. I realize that reality but I had hoped with my age and the NOX I could spend less time cleaning up the environment (not that that is a bad thing). Any suggestions other than “find a new hobby”.😎😏 Thank you in advance for any advice.

If you set up an XP Deus correctly you would not be digging those nails. I am not saying you won't dig some unwanted big or misshaped or round iron but NO NAILS.

Yeah I took my 11 inch coil to a trashy park and had a very bad time lol.

Yes... I know what you mean...lol! That 6" Coil is great in the trashy parks!

You look like The Godfather of Detecting sitting there!😂 Great video. Thanks for taking the time putting it together and sharing your tips with everyone. I tried the 6" on my 800 and it sounded off on rusty nails like they were silver dimes...even with the iron bias maxed out. After digging 20 nails and no coins I switched back to the stock coil. Maybe I'll give it a try again with the sensitivity turned down.

Thank you for the comment and I really do appreciate the support! Yes those rusty nails will come in sounding like silver sometimes. Good way to check your targets is switch over to 5khz when you get a silver reading and if the tone changes or if the vdi bounces all over the place drastically then its trash.. if everything stays consistent then dig it! You can also raise the coil / pump the coil while swing over the target and if it changes the readings its trash ... if everything stays the consistent then dig it! This does not work 100% however it does help. Keep me updated!

you wanna find gold in searched out sites? check out the last two Hoover boys using the ATX
@edhuffmanmetaldetecting5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! Yes I had experimented around with the ATX a few months ago however it didnt really work out in my situation. Aluminum, bottle caps, etc come in as a high low which is the same as Gold. Im hunting in areas that are littered with modern trash as well as iron. Now... if I was in an old hunted out spot that was dealing with iron and not so much modern trash then the ATX would be awesome at picking out the Gold! And in saying that ... if you were hunting a spot with just modern trash and which comes in at a high low tone and no iron... You would do really well on Silver because it comes in at a Low high tone! Thanks for recommending that ... Love the Hoover Boys their doing an awesome job!
