In this video I review Edible Wild Plants - Wild Foods from Dirt to Plate by John Kallas, PHD. If you are just beginning foraging, I think this might be the book to try! It cover a wide range of plants that can be found all over North America and Europe. If you are a beginner forager, I think this book can help you get started!
This is an excellent foraging book. In my opinion it could be the best overall foraging book out there. I think it would be a great book for a beginner forager and for more advanced foragers as well. It covers plants that can be found throughout North America and Europe. Some of the plants that are covered are wild spinach or lambsquarters, chickweed, mallow, purslane, curly dock, sheep sorrel, wood sorrel, field mustard, wintercress, garlic shephard, shephard's purse, dendelion, cat's ear, sow thistle, nipplewort and more.
This book covers the foraging process I think fairly well addressing things like when to forage for particular plants, the growth stages of wild edibles, what are the best parts of the plants to eat, how to forage including tools to use, and even how to prepare the different wild edibles you forage.
I don't know if there is such a thing as an overall foraging book that can be used in all regions, but I do think this book does a very good job of getting close, and it is a great book for a person who wants to learn about foraging and is a beginner in foraging.

I am going through your videos as my family wants to start foraging, mainly for medicinal purposes. We live in the Okanagan too, so I thought I would ask what is your favourite book for foraging for medicinal purposes? We are looking for one that shows plants, what they are good for and how to prep them for medicinal uses. I am hoping you found a good one 😊 thanks and love your videos!

The Boreal Herbal by Beverly Gray I think is very good with lots of medicinal info and how to use the plants. This is a video book review about it if you want you see inside the covers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXOvcn-jbbCbZqc

The two books that I probably actually use the most for medicinal info are: Kloos, Scott. Pacific Northwest Medicinal Plants. Timber Press, Inc. 2017 Wiles, Briana. Mountain States Medicinal Plants. Timber Press Inc. 2018 I really like both of them. They have the same format, so there's lots of info about how to actually use the plants.

I did a review which included the Scott Kloos book in this video if you'd like to see more of that book. It's still one of the three books I refer to the most. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWWvpqN6ap6HeaM

I have it and still like it. Some regional ones might be better for some reasons, but I think for the plants that are covered, it does a really good job. Thank you!

One of the things the author tried to do was cover plants that can be found commonly all over North America and Europe, so I think you would be able to find most in your area. Thank you!
