I added a BIC Acoustech H100 II sub (12 inch) to my 1700BTs and set the crossover on the sub to 60Hz (functionally that is around the frequency where the 1700BTs start to roll off a lot and I didn't want both of them to reinforce 60-80Hz). I guess I should mention I got the sub on sale for a bit less than the price of the 1700BTs. (No way I'd buy a sub for 50-75% more than the speakers themselves.) Also I plugged the ports on the 1700BTs. Honestly to me it sounds really good for a simple setup like this. If you don't set the gain on the sub too high it's not blowing everything else out and perfectly fills in the subtle low frequencies with great capability. The only improvement I plan to make in the future is to have a better source that can output to the 1700BTs and subwoofer separately, so I can limit the low frequency to the Edifiers so they're not trying to reproduce frequencies below their capabilities. It's still nice to have the option to plug the sub directly into the speakers if I ever need to, though.

I found these speakers have nice mid range at lower volumes especially when the music is less complex. Ie less instruments. They seem to struggle with delivering clean mids when the music is more complex,or even when theres a lot of base. Adding a subwoofer fixes this and they really shine when they dont need to generate the punchy bass. When you plug in the subwoofer, the r1700s auto detect this and you can physically see the little woofers move less as they pass the bass heavy lifting onto the subwoofer and focus on mids & high frequencies.
@kolikari38134 ай бұрын
Is this true? Ive heard otherwise that its the same output with or without the woofer. Anyways just ordered t5 waiting with 1700bts which i unplugged not using disappointed since I upgraded from 1280db the bass is so lackinb😂

Hey, just a quick question, do the edifiers get loud and retain the sound quality? Strongly considering these. I have a powered subwoofer I can use with it. Thanks in advance! BRW that's super cheap.
@vegtelenegy2 жыл бұрын
@@gsdubz9931 According to my experience, it preserves the quality even at a relatively higher volume. But I have never used it to the maximum. I bought a Canton AS 80 CX subwoofer, and I use it for the speakers. If I connect the woofer, the crossover in the Edifier amplifiers activates and dynamically cuts the very low range, so higher volumes are not a problem either. However, the frequency range of the output signal to the subwoofer is not affected by this cut, so the signal output from the Edifier can be controlled with the Canton crossover. Sorry for my English, I hope I could help.
