I went searching for a video of one of these playing because I've just finished reading about all the research Edison put into this system. I must say it's the best sounding acoustic record I've heard. It's nice to see one of these machines in good working order and playing... They are a really fascinating part of audio history. :)

It great and amazing to see a cylinder from 1896 work 2. Or any other gramophone at the time. It always great to see people take care of what they have no matter what it is.

Jazz flute! Now there's something you don't hear every day - and on a HOT Edison DD. The A-250 does a remarkably competent job of reproducing this electric recording as well, even though it wasn't designed to. Kudos to the Edisonic reproducer, of course, but even with the original horn there's palpable bass response. I like it, and I thank you for posting it!

Thanks for the great comments! I'm glad that you also noticed (like me) that Winegar's mixed into this wonderful recording just about any instrument that they could (like the flute) that would produce the unique rendition we have here! The timing of the instruments is flawless too. On the A-250, I have lots of other Edison Diamond Disc phonographs including an Edisonic but I just love the sound produced by the combination here. Thanks for stopping in and I'm pleased that you enjoyed this!

This is one of those Edison Discs that are almost impossible to find these days! It ranks right up there with "Charelston" in terms of rarity these days. And added bonus is the fact this comes from the early days of Jazz, though Edison labeled it as "Fox Trot"..this is Jazz without a doubt! A good friend of mine has a bunch of Diamond Discs and just today she asked me to identify some that were missing labels....one of those was #52305.... I almost passed out when I found out it was THIS record. It sounds fabulous! She wants to sell it and asked how much she should ask... I don't know, but told her I'd start at 150.00 and see what happens. Any suggestions on its value?

MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS HAVE A EDISON PLAYER. ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY TIMES A RECORD CAN BE PLAYED BEFORE THEY FAIL?

Unlike a regular Victrola which uses a steel needle, the Edison uses a sapphire stylus that tracks lightly and it is driven across the record. There is less wear. Thousands of plays most likely. But if you store them in a damp cellar the moisture over time will destroy the records.

We've got the same disc; it is one of my favorites as well and I've posted it on my U-tube site. We have different notions of how fast it should be played, however. ; )
