A more practical solution to the renaming process: Copy video files from M4ROOT>CLIPS to a folder in your SSD your editing from. Highlight all video clips, then right click the first video and rename to whatever you want. It will rename to whatever you chose, and include a consecutive numerical value to each clip. Example: “wedding (1)” “wedding (2)” ect ect. Then copy all videos files from the M4ROOT>SUB folder into your SSD in a separate folder and repeat the first process. And that’s it. The key here is that both clips+proxies are named the same thing. In davinci, including “Proxy” isn’t necessary in the renaming process. Hope that helps.

@pacocaute7 ай бұрын
About 7:50 ... most of us will encounter that our footage is divided in many separated sub-folders (mostly because of various days of shooting). So, we find our selves with lots of folders to attach proxies to, and this video for one-folder example is not enough... BUT... but... if you import a bunch of CLIP folders into a Bin and then select them all and then YES you use this video step-by-step: it will work. So, After clicking on Attach, if you select the main folder in the dialog window and then click twice over the Search button... Premiere will offer you the PROXY file automatically. So, you don't need to go to the SUB folder manually. Try it out, it will speed things up. All the best to all the editors out there and cheers to Matt for doing such a great job with a smoothly narration over this muddy issue.

The proxies I'm using were created directly from my boss's Sony Camera. When I have the project file, I simply attach the provided proxies. Once attached, the 2160 x 3840 proxies are compressed, but the 3840 x 2160 ones are fine. What could be wrong with the 2160 x 3840 proxies and why are they compressed in Premiere Pro, but they're fine when opened in VLC player?

Hey. So I tried this method for a while and I had frequent crashes with premiere, and I was going over all the changes I made in my workflow with Premiere experts for weeks until I told them about that and they said it's a known issue (WHY WOULD THIS TAKE WEEKS TO FIGURE OUT???) and I better export proxies from the software itself rather than use the camera's proxies. That, indeed, with combination with some few other minor changes, improved the work speed in premiere and I rarely have crashes since.

I always thought that fluidity of playback and skimming was codec related. Meaning that cameras recording in codec that aren't editing friendly won't play smoothly, even if they're light. I didn't test it, but my guess is that Prores proxy (for example), would be smoother than a small resolution/bitrate XAVC file.

I do real estate mostly, so I like to make folders when I'm moving files from an SD card to my mac, like kitchen, living, détail etc. So I am guessing I would have to do that with proxies as well and then do everything for each folder. I for some reason am running into an issue when I get to the part where I go to link the actual clips to the proxies. I get a message that says "Proxy media and full resolution media must have matching audio channels." To add to this, I have 4 channels of audio when I am shooting in regular 1080 XAVC S HD with my sonya7siii. These have the 4 channels when I import them to premiere. For some reason the Proxy files that I create in camera only have 2 channels when I put them into Premiere. Is this an issue you have ever run into, or you may have a solution for? Thanks in advance and love you videos by the way.

Slightly off subject, BUT ... have you had problems with making proxies for "interpreted" footage lately. In the latest software versions, I can no longer choose Interpret Footage in Media Encoder to make the proxies compatible with my interpreted original footage. What up with that??
@ozb20062 жыл бұрын
you are very very good at explaining things, but i did not understand the video you made 2 or 3 years ago about making proxy's in premiere pro and the thing that has confused me the most was the interpret as with frame rates, i shoot everything in 30 fps and i tried to follow your video to make 30 fps proxy's but i had a mismatch between video and video the frame timing did not align the footage would show time code 1 second, and if you turn the proxy on (while paused) then the proxy would show video from 1.005 (like a few frames forward) so at the time i had to finish my edit so i kind of gave up on the proxy's but i would love it if you would make a new video about proxy's and give a real in depth dive into that older video and like break it down and explain each step and what it does and kind of how it works, i am attempting to speed up my edits and proxy's would help sense i started recording in 4k but rendering to HD (using my phone, so if i need to zoom in) also can you make a video about how to edit on one computer save to a network drive (or remote computer) and have adobe encoder do auto rendering on a different computer and or a network drive? this way i'll be able to edit on one system and an other system (that is running virtually on my server) can render without me starting it, and i can just continue to edit while it is rendering, this would help me a lot... :-)
