***SECOND UPDATE*** It works on PC and Chrome! I simply cleared all of my Sony cookies, DECLINED the cookies when I went on the link that Philip provided and it works!*** ***UPDATE*** Mangaed to watch it on my iPhone XR on Google Chrome. No issues with it at all, great second part, very informative, thank you. Having just watched it on iPhone, my PC (Windows 10) still says "This page isn't working" Very strange. But at least you can access it on your mobile.*** Great video, enjoyed watching it. Just as you got to the part about tracking with continuous AF, we had to watch part 2. Sony site is saying "This page isn’t working. If the problem continues, contact the site owner. HTTP ERROR 413" I've signed up and everything (and registered my Sony products from over the years) but just getting that message. Seems from the comments that a lot of people are having trouble. I'm in UK so don't know why it's showing this message on multiple browsers? Thanks for the first part, fingers crossed the link starts working again soon. (Yes, I followed instructions from your little vid showing how to do it but Sony site must be down. It's probably a coincidence and it's down for maintenance on a Sunday morning.

Perhaps have a look at the new 16 - 35mm f4 PowerZoom as well which is soon coming out. If you don't necessarily need the f1.8, this may be a more versatile video lens and gets positive reviews by some of the good camera review channels here on KZbin. This lens too seems to have limited focus breathing. I share the view that the 35mm f1.8 is great for video.

@@Edwin-- 35 1.4 gm is more suitable for photography. not video for me, that's why I'm selling it
@Edwin--2 жыл бұрын
@ I think we can expect wider introduction of focus breathing compensation via firmware - which currently only the A7iv has - and then the 35mm f1.4 is amazing for video. Sharp and fast focusing, and gives a beautiful image. So it depends on the camera body you pair the lens with, hopefully for the A1 and A7Siii it will come via firmware. For the older models, probably not.

super tuto. It seems advised, especially with part 2, to use LCD instead of, as i do now, EVF like photo mode. Also when we use gimbal or ninja monitor, we stop using EVF so I should try to switch from now to LCD use in video mode. Both parts are clear and concise (once i have digested and experimented) but four settings are very unclear to me : - why don't you use shutter button for video so you can use movie button for another setting - what is the role on a74 of the C2=AFON ? when do you use that button and in which mode ? - when you use LCD (for EVF only ?) with touch focus and touch tracking, when do you use AEL AF/MF hold button. It is so difficult to configure like you and remeber how to use it ! and you never use it with LCD - for photo, a7iv often miss the people in street, parc, ... even if face/eye is selected because we need to locate the flexible spot in that square area. i discovered that "eye af" on lens focus hold button is amazing and whatever the position of spot, it jumps to the eye. Don't you use that "eye af" function to help getting the eye ?
@philipbloom Жыл бұрын
No, the EVF is still my number one way of using the cameras, I’ve no idea where you got that impression from. With regards to the buttons, sorry that’s way too complicated to answer off the top of my head. I thought I covered everything very clearly.
@marclabro Жыл бұрын
yes, very clear except AFON on C2 and when using AEL in part 2. If you use LCD with touch focus and touch tracking, it seemed to me obvious (sorry if i didn't understand) that you don't use EVF anymore otherwise you are limited to the orange cross set to upper right corner of the LCD with your thumb; except perhaps if you are on tripod and after having selected touch tracking you look inside EVF again ?

Thanks for this absolutely helpful video. I’m just wondering if you can kindly feedback to Sony if it can make focus tracking available by using the multiselector, e.g. moving the focus frame to the point to focus and then activate focus tracking by pressing the center of the multiselector, instead of just using the touch screen. The reason why I’m suggesting this is because the small community of underwater videographers can’t use the focus tracking function since there’s no access to the touch screen with the A7SIII inside the underwater housing. We’re a small community which does not garner any attention from Sony and someone like yourself will have greater influence and sway, can perhaps help us to persuade Sony to add this functionality through a software update. Thanks in advance.

Hi Philip. These reviews are invaluable, many thanks. One question for you - I've been testing using face only AF on the FX6 and found that the depth of field seems to be entirelyin front of the subject, between the subject's eye and the camera. So if, for instance, you want another person or thing to also be in focus but they are a little bit behind the focal plane of the subject you are focusing on then you should set focus on the the furthest back subject. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks! Patrick

@@bettadenu7 please read the description or the pinned comment as it’s very clearly stated how to watch part 2. I also explain at the end of this video that part 2 is all about tracking and you need to read the description to watch it; sounds like your skipped out before the end to me! It is essential that you watch part 2 as there’s no such thing as “best settings”, if there were there would be no need for these videos. I spent 9 months testing and retesting the AF system to fully understand all its quirks and ways to overcome them; as i state at the beginning of this video, it’s the most difficult part of the camera to master, luckily for you I’ve done the hard work, you just need to watch it! 🙂

@@philipbloom is there a reason it’s not on KZbin ? It’s a bit of a shame that you cut it off short and left part 2 to go this way instead of making it simple to have a part 2 on KZbin :/

@@bettadenu7 I guess you didn’t read the description either. Sigh.

There should be a pdf with screen grabs in there if the file doesn’t work.
