As perfect as always, thanks. We are currently in the planning of an internal firewall. As you said, of course the first offer were appliances, and also maestro. But wow, such big price tags :-(, especially for little things like 8gb RAM upgrade. We now asked for open server cpu licenses and vsx. 😂

Actually the price for additional hardware is the one I find the most annoying. Like disc and ram doesn’t really cost anything now… Am not saying open servers are best for everything, but for my own user case they are awesome :)

thats true. for our branch office we are using small appliances. for the main firewall we always used open server (without vsx) and as the cluster is running fine there was no reason to replace it by appliances (we calculated it once, the price tag was way bigger). also open server give you freedom in the NIC selection :-), our primary connection type is fiber, where the most appliances are only starting with copper, and fiber expansion cards needed.

@@ayzblokk if already invested in open server licenses. There is very very hard to justify something else. VSX is not an large cost for the licenses, just require some additional planning and thinking :)
