Beat me to it. Petry is not anywhere near $6.25m against the Wing's cap. He's $2,343,750 against Detroit's cap...with the 62.5% retained by Pittsburgh(25%) and Montreal(37.5%).

@@larsintension7198 and even if it was possible to retain 100%, I doubt Oilers would opt for him he is just too weak defensively. Here is my summary of his game: D-zone: frequently making severe junior-type, positioning mistakes which makes him a LIABILITY. Transition game: his first pass in the D-zone is pretty good, but unfortunately he is rather weak blue line up. Decent once inside the o-zone; can move the puck fairly well, his shot is decent and he holds the blue line ok. PK is ok Probably can run a PP at a decent 2nd PP level if no better options are available.

@@larsintension7198the team CAN retain half of what’s left if they move him. Remember Foligno got double retained a few years ago.

Petry has money retained by both Montreal and Pittsburgh so he’s not that expensive for Detroit and he has a full NMC and may not want to leave his hometown team.

Petry has a 15 team no trade list, His full NMC only means that he can't be put on waivers and claimed by a garbage team like Goodrow was.

With Laine in Mtl, I don't see them trading Savard. Good right hand D are rare to come bye and looks like Mtl want to make a push to see if they can make playoffs. Maybe if Mtl have a BAD season tham MAYBE Savard could be trade... then again, Edm should try to fill 2nd pairing hole ASAP and not at the deadline!

Oilers have zero cap space. And nothing to trade. It would be hilarious if they added Jeff Petry who they chased out of town with Torches and Pitchforks. The fans hated him there and the Oilers got a 2nd and a 5th for him. He's probably not as good now as he was then and he's never managed to equal what he did in Montreal. Petry does only cost $2.343 million vs Detroit's CAP. He makes 6.25 million total but various teams , including the habs ($2.34 Million) and Pittsburgh ($1.562) have taken bits of his cap. Petry is 36. It might be the worst possible move to trade away a player when he is too young and developing and then trade to get him back when he is too old and mouldering. Savard is responsible but he's not very mobile. He does it all but skate. Savard is 33 and won't require 2 first round picks to get. Neither guy is all that good. Adam Larsson is the best of the guys in this scenario and only 31 but he's on the last year of a $4 million contract and he's due for a raise. he's the number two defenseman on what has been a very solid defense He would cost you at least two first round picks and likely isn't for sale.

Also Petry grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan a suburbs of Detroit so. Petry is not moving from home. Detroit knew this when they trade for him but the negotiate both Pittsburgh and Montréal to reduce Jeff Petry Cap Hit to a minimum. PIttburgh took 25 % and Montréal took 50% of the remaining 75% So Pittsburgh 25 % Montréal and Detroit 37,5 % each.

Detroit basically did the same thing on Jeff Petry that Montréal did with Patrik Laine i.e. they took a chance on him.

Savard is the perfect RD partner for Hutson until Reinbacher is ready. He is the dad on the team. The Canucks made a really big mistake letting Tanev go. Savard I wouldn’t mind at all if Habs re-sign him for 2 years to be the veteran of the D corps Matheson is log jamming the LD and making Ghule play RD which log jams RD Keep Savard - Trade Matheson
