Edmonton Transit System 121 Final Run

Edmonton Transit System #121, a 1982 General Motors-Brown Boveri Corporation "New Look" HR150G electric trolley bus makes it's final run before being retired. This was filmed on the final night that trolleys would run in Edmonton, May 1, 2009. The bus was working Route 3 Jasper Place-Cromdale and was the last bus to be in service. The following day, trolley buses were run till about 5 in the afternoon. However, bus #121 did not run on May 2nd.

I got my last rides on these near the end of April and I will miss them dearly. Very sad situation. Nice video BTW.

The one thing I loved about the trolleys was the single-seat, and just the cool hum it produced as it roared down the street. I lost count on the many times the track came off, no complaints about that here it just happens.

My father used to drive Trolley #121. I remember he kept loosing the polls three times trying to leave Jasper Place Transit Centre in the winter while drive the Route 3 Cromdale 😄😄

I was sorry to learn that the trolleys are gone. I was back in Edmonton just this past weekend and wondered to my partner where the trolley buses all were. Quite sad really.

I miss these types of busses, the new busses seats are awful and very unconfortable.

Oops! Yup, Fat fingers got spelling error & never noticed. I sure do miss the trolleys. I'm trying to find out on how to get a petion going to bring them back, as the vote was 7-6.

Awww man! I'm gonna be in Edmonton to video some transit action there in April and I didn't know the trackless trolley system had been abandoned already... crud! I guess it will just be buses and some light rail.... At least I'll be going to Vancouver on the same trip....

WoW does that ever suck! Its also sucks that, that bus has to wait for the bus in front of it to refuel, and check the oil, coolant and such. All that trolley needs is its fair box collected and cleaned!! That is a sad video!

Very sad to see! we are bringing trolleybuses back here in Leeds,, England. It is costing £255 million to build 2 routes, that puts into perspective just how much Edmonton has thrown away in electrical infrastructure.

You mean City Councillors. They were the one who got rid of the trolleys in the first place.

@yorkie556 very true especially in the long term when petrol and Diesel runs shor tand prices increases, Electricity can be made from anything even regenerative braking can put electricity back in.

That depends on how you look at it really. Trolley buses are cost effective when they are utilized fully. Meaning all the routes that have wire should be using them 7 days a week. This was not the case in Edmonton. As for New Flyers being cost effective, well I think you mean diesel buses in general. As well look at Vancouver, BC, massive network of electric trolley buses with over 300 units on many routes. It works when you make use of the capital expenses fully.
